Spring track day...

Wed Oct 25, 2006 10:37 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Right, I'm going to ask for opinions early!

Due to the success of the 2-stroke track days at Llandow, we'll be holding another next year and would like to hear some ideas on dates.

We are actually toying with the idea of a 2-day event next year - a Thursday and Friday, and running one day for 250 2-strokes and the other for 400 4-strokes, as I know many own both. We may even run a couple of sessions each day to mix them too, if people like the idea.

So, please let me know what you think.

If we can make a success of a "duel-day" (pun intended!) then we are considering a single day at at the end of the summer somewhere like Cadwell for more of the same - 250's vs. 400's Imports Day!! Very Happy

Of course Yatsushiro! I thought you were going to bring more TDR's next time anyway?!

It will be Llandow again in the Spring (preferred dates please anyone?), and like I say, I would like to arrange a big meeting (250 vs. 400) at somewhere like Cadwell towards the end of the summer. Again, I'd like to hear of preferred dates for that too.

Cadwell would be superb, Andy. I used to live up that way and would go to the racing at Cadwell a lot with my old man when I was a kid. Some of the best memories of my childhood are of watching Sheene, Rocket Ron, Kork Ballington (mad South African on a Kwak), Mick Grant etc. fly over the mountain on their horrendously peaky and spindly racing strokers of the 70s. magic stuff! I blame those experiences for a lifetime of 2T addiction in fact. Been looking for an excuse to go do a trackday up there. What reason could be better than a 250/400 imports duel day?

Excellent work.

Wb

I'm pretty flexible on dates for both. If it has to be a weekday, Fridays are best for me.

If I do 2 days at Llandow (250's and 400's) then it will be Thursday & Friday, and the 250's will be the Friday.

Cadwell (or wherever) will almost certainly need to be mid-week due to the prohibitive cost of the venue.

Why seperate them, Andy? Wouldn't it be more fun to mix the 2T's and the diesels? It'd take a very well ridden 400 diesel to match a 250 stroker around Llandow, I reckon.

As long as there was a reasonable amount of notice, I reckon I could pretty easily swing the day off for Cadwell.

I'd better try to pick up some new leathers in the sales over the winter then. My last set being a bit 'Llandow'd' Embarassed. You really should come out and play too. If Rachel had the, er, balls Shocked for it on the NSR junior, after only just passing her test, you really have no excuse. I was absolutley bricking it the first time I went out on the track: 'I'll be too slow'; 'I'll be in the way'; 'I'll fall off'; 'I'll kill my bike/self' - all that. All forgotten after the first few laps, but I certainly still buzz off the adrenalin that kicks in at sign on time. Electric! I now feel much more confident and comfortable riding on the track than I am on the road really - where, frankly, I'm far too aware of the dangers to get any kind of wriggle on at all. - all they bloody traters round 'ere, see.

Cheers

Basically 'cos I hate bore strokes! Laughing I want to keep the 2-stroke day pure!!

But seriously, I want the 2-stroke day to be just that - a 2-stroke day! I am happy to organise a 400 day the day before however, because it seems those boys can't organise a piss-up in a brewery, and I could put the proceeds towards the "250/400 import day" at a more expensive circuit.

I expect there could possibly be a rather large take-up from the 400's, so it would make sense to run a day just for them. There were just enough 2-strokes at Llandow last time to give everyone just a bit more track time than they could physically handle, so another 10 bikes would be ideal. 20 or 30 400's as well though would have a serious effect on how much track time everyone gets, and I think at a track like Llandow, a lot has to do with value for money. Cadwell however, is understood to be both expensive and busy, so people are more receptive to larger groups and slightly shorter (or slightly fewer) sessions for their money, just to be somewhere with such esteem.

I'd still run a couple of mixed session at the 250 and 400 days at Llandow though, if the respective groups were up for it. I think the 250's would be more receptive to the idea than the 400's though personally! Smile

Like I said to you you'll struggle to get many 400's to Llandow, it's not the best track and it's a flippin' long way.

You'd have a lot more luck somewhere like Cadwell, there's always an "official" 400Greybike day, normally just a hijacked day at Cadwell, the tyre bloke is never pleased to see 40+ 400's running tyres he doesn't stock!

You should all be aware of course there are several properly fast riders on the forum (boys and girls), sub 1.50 round Cadwell, sub 55 round Brands Indy type quick.
