installation of Ohlins shock ?

Sat Nov 04, 2006 5:07 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I have bought an ohlins shock, supposedly a 46HRCL, and it looks like one but there are no markings on it except:

The only numbers I can find are:
On top:

R6

B18061

106648

The spring is numbered:

1093-59/150 180 Ohlins

I bought it as a 46HRCL ,which should be for a Honda NSR250 MC21 1990-93 but I have just checked the dimensions and the bushings are wider than Hondas and the bolt diameter is 10mm but 12mm on Hondas.

Shouldn't a 46HRCL go directly on a MC21 or do I need to buy some other bushings ?

Hi, 46HRCL relates to the type of unit and is not a part number. Several bikes use a 46HRCL shock, not just the NSR.
46= piston diameter (mm).
H= hose mounted reservoir.
R= adjustable rebound.
C= adjustable compression.
L= adjustable length.

The other figures you quoted probably refer to a part number and a spring rate.

Hope this helps.

I know, but I wanted to know what type I have. Maybe someone could have a look at their shock and compare numbers?

On Monday you can call Ohlins and they can tell you exactly what the shock was made for, assuming nobody changed any other parts. They can also tell you the spring rate.

I mail'ed them and my mail was referred to the danish importer, but he couldn't answer, so I've tried mailing them again and might try and call them if I don't get an answer, but there must be some people here who have an Ohlins shock on their NSR.

The problem is that I only have the numbers I mentioned above. It looks like the shock has been lying around from new and the standard accessories have been lost. It doesn't even have an Öhlins sticker!

My Ohlins spring is a 1093 49 130 L101. I can't see any numbers on the top, because it is mounted on the bike, sorry. As far as I know, that was the spring that came originally with it, but I got it secondhand, so it is possible it is a different Ohlins spring and the previous owner didn't mention changing it. The top mount fit perfectly, but I did have to file down the lower shock mount a bit to make it fit. Hope that helps.

Email Ohlins USA in North Carolina. They have always told me that information when I asked.
