well sounds simple enough.i just bought this bike a couple of weeks ago and now i want to know just what exactly i bought.i know sounds silly(for lack of more explicit words) i know its an '89 model mc18,and has a wet clutch which makes it an R model right?but how many R models is there and whats the diference?as far as serial #'s go,well no luck for me since its all Japanese.any help will be greatly appreciated.

A photo would be handy - especially if you are in the USA (or Canada), as many NSR's are listed as a different year of manufacture to get round registration issues.

I'm no expert, but it looks like a MC18 with aftermarket RS bodywork. If its an R it would be the entry level model with wet clutch and non-adjustable suspension. Nothing special.

Looks nice!

Most likely an R5K. Most unlikely an R6K.

R5K is the MC18R Mk2
R6K is the MC18SP Mk2

R model - wet clutch & non-adjustable suspension
SP model - dry clutch & adjustable suspension

As I say, most unlikely to be an R6K with R parts, although straner things have happened!

Not all R6K's are what they appear to be either though!! Wink

Suspension and dry clutch are relatively easy to come by, then you will effectively have an SP. MC21/28 SE/SP clutch/transmission/forks will bolt right in.

Does look good. I always wanted one of those until the 21 came along!
Very Happy
Nice looking exhausts on it. Should have a bit more ground clearance, different fairing should help also.
Waynes 18 has "hero scrapes" down the right side of the fairing.
You can mod the rear suspension if it hasn`t already been done by making up the HRC link plates from sheet ally. Plans are in the tuning section, I think? Gets you sharper handling.

Ebay is a good place to start, but it may be easier to get forks from a different model, like CBR 600, or even USD. You might also consider a custom made rear shock like Ohilns or Penske.

Can't help on the ID as i'm an NSR newbie myself, but I think that looks really great in that simple white paint job. Really nice lines and very clean by the look of it too.

Cheers

Try just calling Penske. They will need to know your specifications anyway to set you up with the right valving and spring. I don't think they have a specific part number, only a model number for the type of shock, and there are probably a few of those depending on how much you want to spend.
