engine problem...

Fri Jan 26, 2007 8:48 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello,
This is what happened to me ;
I was riding my 93 SE on the highway throttle-brake-throttle-brake etc (because of the traffic) at around 160 km/h when suddenly the bike started to "brake" like a 4-stroke brakes when you close the throttle. I immediatelly holded the clutch and the bike turned off.
It would not start so I put the first gear and started to push the bike while i released the clutch. It started moving and I managed to make it home but it seemed like the engine was "braking" again. It would not stay on while in idle and i had to rev all the time. Today i managed to turn it on in the same way and the left exhaust did a sound like a baloon exploding.
Ok since its my first 2-stroke and even though I own her for more than 5 years, its the first time something like that happens so I'm asking you guys what could possibly be the matter.
Thank you in advance for your help and please forgive my english regarding mechanical terms.
Andrew

I'm afraid it does sound like you've seized it.

First thing to do to pull the lower fairing off and remove the exhaust pipes. Have a good look up the exhaust port and see what kind of condition the pistons are in.

By the sounds of it, it might not be a full seize but might of whiped a ring which you can sometimes (if rarely) get away with by cleaning the barrel and fitting a new piston.
