I got my 300cc kit in the mail a few months back, and in preparation had stripped the bike down and taken the barrels off with my mechanic housemate. Now he's moved out, and I've neither the tools or skillsto put everything back together again.
Can anyone recommend a decent two stroke mechanic in Brisbane? So far I've been turned down by most places because they "don't deal with NSRs" "don't deal with two strokes" "that thing's a hand grenade and we won't touch it" or "we don't know how to do the job". Repeated attempts to lure the ex-housemate back with beer, other booze and potential cash, to finish the job as per the opriginal plan have failed, and I am somewhere near wits end. I've got a bike which I have some very fond memories of sitting in the back of my house in a lot of bits and no conceivable way to put them together, but I'm sure one of my antipodean allies can point my in the direction of a competent two-stroke loving mechanic.

Ok, I guess I'll man up and do the job myself. Cheers for the responses, and I hope that I don't mess up too badly busting my mechanical cherry.
I know Matt reads these forums regullarly, and that there are a few others who have bought and installed the 300 kit. Is there anything I need to do differently to what is specified in the rebuild section of this site?
I'd also like to ask about tools. I understand I can buy cheapish sockets and spanners without too much drama, but does the same apply to tourque wrenches or do I need to buy an expensive one to ensure everything works just right? _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once...
Apparently there is a bloke out nerang way call paul beedie?? who is a 2 stroke guru.
Having said that there is something to be said about being able to rebuild the motor under your own steam.
I'm in brisbane on the northside so if you would like a hand or someone to watch and have a beer while you rebuilding it, give me a yell.
I got one myself and would be very keen to give it a crack with you, maybe we can both learn somthing.

Mate, cheers for the info. I think I'll get this Paul guy to do the tuning, as I don't feel very confident wth doing the initial setup without doing the engine in.
I'll shoot you an email once my exams are finished, and would be happy to provide you with beer while you stand around supervising
I'm down in Sunnybank though
By the by, still interested i info re: tourque wrenches and and any different setting for the 300 kit if anyone knows. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once...
