I've had enough...

Tue Jul 03, 2007 1:16 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Some of you may or may not remember (as it was such a long time ago!), i bought an MC18 off of eBay that had a seized rear cylinder waaaaaay back in August 2005.

A guy i knew (who was local to my work place) ran an electronics company, and repaired the machines in our factory every so often. We got friendly as he has an ex race TL1000R with carbon Dymags, race Ohlins etc. Turns out he used to race an RG500, his son races an RS125. He used to make bike alarms & ended up branching into fixing bikes too.

Anyway i wasn't in too much of a rush for the bike as i was getting married last July, and A) money was an issue & B) I hadn't told my finance that I'd bought it (and still haven't!) Wink

To cut a long story short they got the engine repaired during last year, repaired the fork seals, replaced the wheel bearings etc. But the engine's been sat on their work bench ever since! As you probably understand I've started to loose patience so i told him that i wanted the bike ready end of last year....this didn't happen. In January i gave the guy an ultimatum, i wanted the bike completed by my birthday in April. That gave him 3 MONTHS to basically put the engine back together & get it back into the frame etc, to which agreed.

It's now July and the only progress has been that he's got the top end back on. He's got all the bits required to finish the job, but he just takes too much work on that he can't cope. He has THREE engines on benches, and all 3 of us owners are on his case. He's also having a lot of building work done to his unit, not my problem i know.

You're probably thinking that i'm a tit for leaving it so long, but he kinda has me over a barrel as A) My wife doesn't know i have it still & B) As she doesn't know that i have it, i can't really get the bike shipped anywhere else as i don't have a van. Otherwise i would've taken it somewhere else a long time ago Sad

I'm posting this to see if there's anyone on here fairly local to me that could possibly help me get this finished? If so, at least i'd have an option after i tell this guy to give me my bike back how it is & pay him for the parts that he's fitted. Would i have to pay him for the (little) work that he's done on the engine? I'm hoping that he'll feel bad about how much he's taken the piss & let me take it. Also i'm starting to feel as though i don't trust his workmanship as even though he has knowledge of 2T's, he hasn't worked on an NSR before. And how i've been treated is the icing on the cake. The last thing i want is to spend £1k+ fixing this bike for it to break sooner rather than later!

I know that NSR-World has a work shop service....where is this based please? Could you collect the bike from Chippenham?

I can't believe that I've let this go on for almost TWO years!! Rolling Eyes

Cheers
Scott

Ironically i actually collected the bike from Exeter originally!! Rolling Eyes

Andy if you read this perhaps you could PM or email me your contact details please: master_skooter at hotmail dot com.

Chippenham aint too far from me, and I have a bike box trailer, with spare space to stash the bike if needs be.

I'm not saying I'll have the time to rebuild it - haven't even got time to do my own, but I could help out with somewhere to put it in the short term!

Why not just tell your wife for goodness sake? Are you a man or a mouse? Confused

lol you don't know my wife!! Shocked

In hindsight i wish thati'd been honest from the start, but i wasn't & she'd understandably flip if i told her now.

Basically my old mans been helping me out financially & i'm kind of planning on making it out as a gift from him when it's finished. Sad huh.

I've wanted another bike for too long now, for her to tell me to sell it before i've ridden it!!

Thanks for the offer of space Dave, i'll bare that in mind.

I go see this guy this afternoon to see if he's done any further work on it...

I'm sure that NSR-World will come to the rescue here.

As for not telling the mrs Rolling Eyes

Get the wife to sign a legal thing to say that everything that's yours is yours and she can't have a bean, and then tell her Wink

My missus daren't question any of my purchases! She looks at the newly delivered box, looks at me with "that look", then shuffles off in the kitchen to put the kettle on!

When she starts paying the bills, maybe she can have a say!... Maybe! Laughing

I only have a dog to answer to, and he don't care what I buy so long as there's dog food and walks.

Far far easier...

Miind you, I'm so clueless I was councelling one of the 'night fighters' out here last night. She was in tears about her Mum and the fact I was trying to sell HER my mechanic.

Buy whatever you want, take it all apart in the kitchen and everything is still there, when coming home 4 weeks later Wink

My kitchen is in full scale production, RS in the hall, F3 '18 in the kitchen, soon to be joined by the RVF.

Its nice now that the Mrs asks if she can use the sink to wash up rather than me asking if I can use it for bike bits.

The dish washer is the perfect tool for all those tricky to clean bits, and for riding gear, Ive found nothing can bring a set of muddy MX boots up like the dish washer.

A wedding lasts a day, a bike can be for life.

7 years with the NSR. Longer than most marrriages...

And 17 years with my FJ so far!
