The servo is generally a reliable part. The cables too don't tend to stretch, as thereis alomst zero force applied, until the valve becomes choked wih carbon.
When that happens the motor draws more current, and the PGM unit is usually the first part to fail.
I'm not sure on the MC16 though, as it was slightly different to the later bikes - I believe the ignition unit and servo unit are seperate parts.

Yeah, the MC16 (and MC18 Mk1) use a separate RC Valve control box. If the controller fails, it won't render the rest of the ignition useless. Integration of the ECU and RC controller is great as long as the motor is serviced as it should be!
I believe Paul Herr (Wrench) found a motor suitable to use in the later (MC18~) servos, but I can't see the point - unless you really like to tinker and are bored! In the unlikely event a servo does fail, then a good used one is cheap and easy enough to find. _________________ Andy.

there are 2 ignition units on the '16, located behind the headstock. The servo control unit is seperate and located in the tail just infront of the rear light.
I think that the servo on the '16 runs in the opposite direction to those on later models and from looking in the parts manual it doesn't seem interchangeable.
like alannsr250 says, if it ain't broke don't fix it. _________________ it's a name, not a condition
the engine produces ac curent the rectifier turns this into dc current for the battry and regulates the charge rate for the battry. _________________ Honda nc23 CBR400 AERO 1986, 1990 honda NC23 Tri-Arm, 1987VFR400 NC24 Rothmans Rep, NSR250 MC16 1987, CL250s 1983.
