The bike absolutely flew around the track (even allowing for my relative inexperience ) swallowing up 250's and spitting them out with ease. The midrange grunt is just fantastic out of the turns, making life both easy and forgiving. Riding behind an R6 it had exactly the same acceleration down the straights (the bugger got in the way in the corners though )
The handling seems very biased to the front end, with a direct steering response and precise turn in (a bit slappy on the straight mind...hence the damper). Wether this sharpness comes from having more weight on the front end (the forks do sag a bit) I don't know, but it's wonderfully taut and crisp. Wb's track prepped 3XV in comparison felt soft, worn out and gutless (Although it is tired, which is a fair excuse).
Was it worth the effort? Of course it bloody was.....the bike's a f*?!ing missile!
And thanks to Andy for sorting the graphics for me
You cheeky young scamp! Soft, worn out and gutless? Come in the fast group and say that pencil-boy, lol. Actually it is pretty soft and worn out (and if it's 'gutless' then that would be your doing ). Your definition of 'track-prepped' is an interesting one too. I'd have called it 'dragged out of the shed a couple of days before a track day and hurredly lashed together with whatever old crap lay around'.
The insults aside , I have to say that Martin's done a really top-notch job of grafting the 350YPVS motor into the 21. It really does fly, and the heavier motor doesn't seem to have adversely affected the handling, as is always the concern with these kinds of conversions/specials.
Terrific day out at Llandow with the TDR forum boys. Real shame not to see any of you lads there.
Be interesting to see it up against a tyga kitted NSR300.
Maybe the forks would benefit from being worked over to take account of the new motor and rider weight? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

I agree Dave, the forks probably would benefit from being reworked to suit the weight, but I can't justify spending the money for luxuries like that, when some preload spacers and thicker oil would do the job...anyway it handles nicley as it is, so I'll probably not touch it. As for power, here's a very rough comparison between Stephen's F3 (in an earlier guise), his 300, and the 350 in yellow. (sorry for nicking your graphs Steve)
I reckon you could probably use something like VFR400 NC30 springs (or look for a set of complete forks - although you will need the bigger discs too then) to stiffen the front a little. A little more/heavier oil than standard will probably help too.
You are basically running into an issue us "fuller figured" types have with import suspension... it's just that your motor is putting the stress on the forks rather than our body mass!!
Try mixing 10W and 15W fork oil 50:50 (12.5W), and adding a little extra over stock. _________________ Andy.

Martin, if it whips 250's get it out in the 400 open class
Nice front fender, good colour choice _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
On the track I had the fork's damping 2 clicks out from full in....so yes, some thicker oil would be the next step. Anyway, when are you going to come round and have a go on it Andy?
I'm not quick enough either really but hey, only one way to learn....
However as you live a tad further from most of the tracks than me it would be a bit costly.... _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
I have an MC18 and a spare RZ motor. I have considered mounting the motor into the frame, but never really put action to it because of other projects. After seeing images of your NSRD project, I must say it looks better than I thought it would!
I would appreciate some words of wisdom before I go any further. Could you give me some advise, tips? What do I have to look out for when mounting the RZ motor into the NSR frame? for some reason I can't view images of the project update....
Hi Vic... yeah, it is possible, but you need to cut off the front engine mounting bars from the NSR frame, and relocate the rear engine mounts, so it does mean cutting the frame. Then you have to make a pair of side cradles to mount the front of the engine like this:
The MC18 frame is a bit narrower than the 21, so I can't say how well it'll fit in there. I tend not to give any more info than the odd picture, because I had to work it out from scratch....and think if people want to copy it it, then they can also work it out for themselves too.
The other thing is, a stock (derestricted) MC18 engine is arguably alot better than a 350 engine, most 350 engines I see are frankly a bit cr*p. What I'm saying is, how succesful the result will be is entirely dependant on how well you put it all together.
Nice one Martin, good to see the old girl finished and running strong. The last time i saw it was at LLandow on the back of a recovery truck with WB sat on it.
If there is one bike i would love to own it's an NSR-D.
