Ok, I currently live in florida. The bike I bought currently lives in San francisco. The previous owner has been great, we're searching for a shipping company. Its primarily ridiculous to ship ups....so far i've talked to 4 different ups numbers...still no price. its looking like forward air, but get this....forward "AIR" isn't by airplane...as the name suggests. I mentioned that to the nice girl on the phone, she said that FA's trucks ride on "air suspension, thus the "air" part of forward air. hmmmph!
Anyway, the previous owner says he may be willing to crate it for me(at his motorcycle shop) Scuderia of San Francisco. A big help considering that Fa's policy is that "their" container must be ordered in order to be "at" the san francisco depot, something that could take 10 to 14 days. So, having him crate it for me, we save the time of waiting and are able to ship right away. Not as cheap as I thought though. About 500 bones.
I'm looking forward to getting on with the inspection of the bike. So far, its been abit of a risk. But so far so good. I've been wanting an NSR for about ten years. Doesn't make since to keep wanting something that long, and not have it. Just picked up a new zx10r(try not to hold it against me). Its been great, but its not a two stroke. I have a ysr50 stock and a project 200 blaster\ysr on the table. I don't know what it is, I just love two strokes. Distraught since the AMA, in all its wisdom, saw fit to remove 250's from the support class. I think they should be a main event. Nothing like 30 250's blazing by in the international horseshoe of Daytona(two hours north of us)What's wrong with the AMA? knuckleheads seems to come to mind as far as 250's go.
Thanks for all the help and advice so far. May take you up on your offers. You guys are a wealth of info...(I've been reading) I'm greatful. Will keep you posted. Thanks again. Cliff inFlorida
Nice big F350 or something, some pretty girls and a large crate of grog. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Are you 2 hours north, or 2 hours south of Daytona? If you are to the south, you should drop in to "Something Extra Cycles" in Altamonte Springs (426W) and have a chat to a guy called Mark Brown. He owns the NSR currently at the top of the Posers League, plus some other goodies like an RS125 (propper one... not an Aprilia!), a TZ250, RGV250, and a stunning titled RG500.
I'm not sure if he actually has anything to do with the shop anymore, but he keeps his bikes there still, and is sure to be around in the afternoons and on Saturdays! (Saturday always used to be a free pizza and coffee day too!)
i just recently used Allied shipping (Fedralcos) from Colorado to Maine
and it was 619 dollars, they picked up the bike strapped it down and delivered to me.
a cheaper option is if the person who owns the bike will drop it off and stuff
and business pick up and drop off is 70 bucks cheaper on each end.
i have heard that forward air is faster, and cheaper, but the owner would have to drop of the bike and tie it down in their crate, supply the straps, and a lock to lock the box with.
might be like 400 ? you also would have to go the your nearest terminal to pick up the bike... this might not be worth the lower cost...
i paid 900 bucks for my NSR 92MC21 so i didnt mind paying 619 for shipping... Still it would have been even better to just get it for 900.. _________________ Koren
2 Strokes and I'm Off
I shipped two 250`s from Ct. to Ca. last summer with Foreward Air. I was able to strap two bikes down into one container. I had the buyer UPS tiedowns, and two padlocks. The total was $500. They left on a friday afternoon, and the buyer called me on Monday saying they arrived already.
Not bad from one end of the country to the other in 3 days. The containers they use are made of steel with anchors for the tiedowns and are made to hold Harleys. Both bikes arrived unscathed. I also shipped Mark Brown`s RG 500 to him a few years back from Ct. to Fla., and it cost around $350.
Foreward Air is the best IMHO. _________________ Mike
Sort of off subject a bit, but within the thread...
Mike, have you met Mark Brown personally, or ever been to Somethin' Extra? Great bunch of guys, and so dedicated to riding! If you ever get the chance to pop in on him at the shop, get him to take you across to St. Andrews Tavern opposite the shop for a couple of ciders... he'll tell you all about it!
Small world when you realise you have mutual acquaintances with people from different ends of the planet, let alone country! :)
Wyn Beloruski is another guy who often frequents the shop and the Thursday night "Steak'n'Shake" bike-meet. Lovely RZ500R!! Some good lads in Fl. with a taste for 2-strokes!! Can't wait to get back out there.
Andy, We're south of Daytona. Straight south, down I-95. A stop in the shop in Altamont...I think I will. The Forward Air terminal is in Orlando, near there. Will call tomorrow for directions. Thanks. It would be great just to see those bikes. Didn't realize the #1 bike was so close.... its on!!!
Talked to the previous owner today. he said he would definately have his shop crate the bike and take it to forward air. He's a real nice guy. You don't find many people these days willing to go the extra mile for a stranger. And thanks again everyone. Cliff
Andy, you said you can't wait to get back to FLorida. You moving back or coming for the Daytona 200...did you get lost?(he he) Struck my curious nerve...just asking. Talk to you guys soon. Cliff
I just shipped a Honda RS250 from WA to CT last month. I went to the local bike shop and picked up one of their crates that a new '05 bike just arrived on (free). Put the RS in there, and had a company called Globaltranz (found on the internet) come pick it up. My door to his door was $640.
Do a search, you should be able to find someone pretty cheap and ship from door-to-door. _________________ Paul Herr

MY BIKE PICS
Andy, I have been to Mark`s shop before. I spoke with him the other night.
From what I gathered from our conversation, I don`t think he is affiliated with the shop anymore.
He`s devoting most of his efforts these days at Jennings Raceway.
A great guy, and a good friend. _________________ Mike
I don't regret anything in life, but my biggest mistake ever was to leave Florida in 2000!
I'm not in the position now to be able to move back to Fl (just yet, anyway!) but I will definitely be visiting again, hopefully in the not too distant future. Bike Week and the 200 are always good for a laugh! Daytona is my favourite beach on the planet, and I've seen a few!! :D
RGB Mike:
Florida and it's inhabitants have to be one of the most welcoming experiences I have ever known! Mark and his friends are some of the most generous people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I would never hear a bad word spoken about them.
Do you know Chuck Actor from a little further south? Unfortunately he's sold his MC21 now, but another really nice genuine guy. He used to race an RS (with Mark I believe) as "Iron Horse Racing" or something like that.
Charles:
I know, I know... before you start on me! I'm not taking anything away from you guys in the rest of the States - I've just spent more time in Florida! :)
Andy, I know Chuck as well. Haven`t heard from him in a while now.
Daytona beach is an awesome place....for me, it`s the fine ladies in thongs that make it what it is!!! I promissed Mark that I will be at Daytona this year.
The RG 500 Mk5 and TZ 750 needs to stretch thier legs. I haven`t had them out in a while now. Lets hope for good weather this year. _________________ Mike
Mike, I can't believe we have never met! I must have made 15 trips to Florida in the last 10 years, and spent best part of 2000 living in Sebring (right next to the track!).
In 1999 I stayed at Marks for a fortnight for Bike Week, and we went on some ride-outs and did the Steak'n'Shake meets too. '99 is when I met Wyn and Chuck for the first time. Hard to believe Mark never called you down, considering he knows what a 2-stroke fanatic I am! Say hi to him next time you see him!
Did he ever make that TZ road legal? He was threatning to!
