Is there any advantage to changing out the MC16 cylinders and pipes with MC18s? Is there anything else that should be changed, eg carbs, electronics.......
I actually had a MC16 bottom end and gearbox in my MC18. The '18 cyls go straight on, '18 heads go straight on '16 cyls too. The electrics will swap straight over, as long as you swap the whole system. And if you get the PGMII electrics, you will have to use the '18 carbs and mounting rubber cos the PGMII has a throttle position sensor attached to the carbs.
You end up with a MC18 engine except for slightly different gear ratios.
Worth the work. Hell, even the '18 heads, carbs and electrics are worth the effort over the '16 stuff...
thanks for that. I have a MC16 but have a MC18 dry clutch motor which I picked up cheap with a ruined cylinder, but have found a NOS MC18 cylinder cheap so..............time to play
With a little work you can fit the complete engine. As Kieran says fit the carbs and electrics if you can. MC 18 pipes will fit with a few mods to the can mountings.
cool...wasnt sure if I could after a number of people indicated the engine mounting were different. I guess if I cnage the electrics, I will also need to change out the tacho/speedo as well.
