Are all the oil pump the same between different models? they look the same on the parts manual pages but the part numbers are different. i have seen a few nice pumps on the japan web page, but they are all for the 18 21 and so on.
i use the bike as a road bike so i am sticking to the oil pump. my oil pump was not functioning so i will try to fix it or get a new one.
is there a way to see if the oil pump is broken or is there a block somewhere? it works a bit on and off so the workshop claimed they made some changes and made it into premix with the oil pump still attached to the bike and there is this clater sound after they did this.
Any ideas? _________________ feel the wind
Another question concerning the oil pump. If the solenoid cable has a bad connection then could it have caused the on and off optimal function of the oil pump? Like giving insufficient oil? I opened the plugs for the solenoid other day to clean them maybe I did a bad job of putting it together again. _________________ feel the wind
There's a level of interchangeability on later models, but the MC16 needs an MC16 oil pump as far as I know. You may be able to get away with a Mk1 MC18R2J pump, but you'll have to source one and let us know how you get on! _________________ Andy.

I had a look at how the guy made me into premix. he simply just put a small ball in the tube from the oil tank to the pump, so that my pump is still running but with no oil (dry) > guess i know where that clater sound is coming from.
the drive shaft seems to be fine and there is a good closure petween the pump to the transmission box so no drip drip there!
i notice that there is a little free play in the cable, it will be stiffed out around 1/10 of throtle does that need to be changed or not?
thanks andy, i will keep a look out for that pump. by the way now i have removed the ball that was blocking the oil path how do i know if the pump is working with out another dry cylinder? _________________ feel the wind
I think I found the problem. The clatter noise seems to be coming from the water pump.
First off, I am getting a higher temperature in idle and during riding, in this weather which is 2 C.
Second the sound pitch changes with the rev. of the engine.
So I will be taking apart the pump cover as soon as I get an idea of how to do it.
Anyone had a problem with the pump before? _________________ feel the wind
In need of help!
I checked the water pump it looks fine with no free play perfect shaped blades, and it turns over with the kick start with good movement.
But when I was putting it back according to the owner’s manual it didn’t work so well.
It said to put coolant to the overflow tank and to open up the radiator cap, warm up the bike and bleep the gas to 5000rpm for a few times, and the level of the coolant should change... but this didn’t happen.
I put as much as was drained back to the tank but the level did not drop, its way over the upper mark.
I stopped after this thinking that the engine might overheat.
Did I do something wrong? Is this normal? Or does the system need bleeding?
Want to fix this up before going after the clatter noise again. _________________ feel the wind
