yep first track day after freash rebuild and mint tuneup
3 laps in coming from top of 6th gear (at 12000 rpm)
down to second gear into hair pain,, just coming out noticed
a rattling sound then i started to pull over, the power died and when the bike stope'd the rpm died out, i try to kickstart but the leaver wouldnt move, so i assumed (in a gutted state) that it seized..
took bike back to work and droped the bottom cylnder , luckily there was no damage to cylnder sleeve and there was oil also in the mix,
although when looking in the head TWO BRASS PIECES came out along with
shards of metal, the piston is also damage around the edge but rings seem okay, also there was a E-CLIP in the head also,
the connecting-rod has no play (foward backward) but does have play to the right side as it looks like a spacer thingy is missing beside the con-rod
im guessing its the thrust bearing washer?? cause my mechanic said that thats the only thing coper or brass looking in the engine
NOOOOOooooooo! after about 3-4 thousand bucks this happens on my third lap at the track@!.
anyone know wat i should do, iwhere i should look,
im really screwed guys. any help much appreciated.
yeh, gutted man, oh well im due for full licence in 2-3 weeks so looks like i might graba '08 or something, just so i know something aint gunna blow up *touch wood*
could sell it as a 300 kit needing pistons and rings * are cheap *
with only 2500kms on mint as cylnder heads it will cost half the price as new to get a 300 kit
NSR Wayne had the same problem on his 18, a thrust washer broke up and the broken bits got dragged up on top of the piston.
Not good news, i'm gutted for you
That SUCKS. What was the outside temp? I had a similar insident only mine happen in sixth and locked the rear wheel. Mine was a jetting mistake and I got away with a hone and piston. You can't run it without a thrust washer though. _________________ 1995 A kit TZ 250

It would perhaps have been wise to have had the crank rebuilt and balanced etc. before pushing more power through it. Cranks are a service item, they don;t just spin forever without attention.
I reckon you should fix up the NSR. Do it properly and it'd give you far more fun and satisfaction than the Gixer ever will. The occasional engine blow up is inevitable (on any bike) if you push them a bit. Fixing them up better than before is an important part of the fun and satisfaction in my book.
