I prefer matching barrels, but at a pinch, I'd put the '16 barrel (with its '16 RC valves) on, with the '18 head (If its not damaged) and just run it at that.
Scary news: My MC18, when I had the '16 barrels on it (MC18 heads, carbs and electrics), wasn't much slower than another NSR MC18 that was poking around . And I made up the ground under brakes _________________ The Chopster

That is scary!
Unquestionably something wrong with setup of the other MC18; you can see that the MC16 will be a lot less powerful (maybe up to 10hp) just by looking at the shape of the ports. With the 18 heads and carbs, maybe the difference is knocked back to about 5hp, but that's still 10% on these little bikes. _________________ Andy.

Big corner missing off each exhaust port for a start. At a rough guess, I'd say a good 20% less area.
There's also a bit of a hike in compression on the later models, plus the use of bigger carbs. Lots of smaller things soon add up, but the porting is substantially different.
Here's a thought. The MC16 is rated at 45hp with no restrictions in ignition like the later models. The MC18's and MC21 are also rated at 45hp, but altering one wire on each model lifts them to at least 60hp (if the motor is in good normal serviceable condition). There certainly ISN'T 15hp in just carbs and standard pipes alone. _________________ Andy.

ooops should have known. Decision time now...rebuild the r6k dry clutch and put it into the 21 rolling chassis or drop the top end onto the mc16 along with the mc18 pipes......hmmmmmmmm
Remember the MC16 cases are slightly different to all the other models -- they are solid mounted like the RS.
You can swap the cases between models, but they will need a little work (i.e. spacers fabricated) to get them to fit. Solid mounts are the way to go for power, but it can make the bike feel harsh. _________________ Andy.
