Did you have to do any work to the fairings at all to make them fit, or were they a straight bolt on?

Looks good in the photos.

I have read the posts regarding Chinese/Hong Kong body work and they had given me concerns regarding taking the plunge.

I have been considering buying the same as a temporary measure, untill I can source a complete set of OE panels as all my bodywork is damaged.

There are a few suppliers offering painted bodywork, some made from PVC and one from ABS plastic, which did you opt for.

Was that the price incl postage etc.

It totally depends what you want, the HK bodywork can look OK with a bit of care. But it will never ever ever pass for o.e. stuff in a million years. As for why they can't just follow how Honda painted them, I'll never know.

But then again, a full set of NSR bodywork from Honda is going to set you back somewhere in the region of a grand or so and getting 2nd hand panels in perfect condition is near impossible. I'm not a big fan of bikes so spotless and scratch free you daren't use them anyway so for me it'd be track down some normal condition Honda o.e. panels and go for the "used" look. After all, these bikes are 10-15-20 years old, they shouldn't be that mint.

Fontyyy

I agree with your sentiments regarding older bikes looking like they have had some life experience, with the odd mark or two.

Mine however is the NSR version of the Keith Richards look Confused , with the front cowl totally mullered and most of the other panels damaged beyond repair.

I will be keeping my eyes peeled for panels as they become available to get a complete set, and spray them up into the rothmans scheme. I have already got my Rothmans sticker set ready.

Anyhow, this is a bit premature, I need to crack the mechanical issues first as I plan to ride it, not have it as a garage queen Smile

I am honestly glad you are happy with it, but I will never be satisfied with mine.

I think what pi**ed me off more than anything was that I was never supplied with what I was promised. The GRP is an appalling fit too, with masses hacked out of the bottom to get the pipes to fit.

Most people who saw it in Performance Bikes thought it looked fine, and from the right angle, it does... in a way.

I have collected a full set of OEM panels over the last few years though, and will be much happier once they are painted up and fitted. I will take great delight in destroying my HK stuff once it's been replaced! Laughing

Did he supply the fuel tank too? That certainly sweetens the deal if he did.

Well, this is half the "problem" isn't it? A total lack of consistancy;

Racer38's SP looks quite good though the plastic is a bit brittle.
Billy's old 21sp was (we think) the same sort of bodywork, it had those same squares to connect the front panels that you see on all the ones on ebay. That was really good, the fact it was 28 panels on a 21 meant that the "wrong" paint job (a 21SP job on 28 bodywork) didn't matter and it was good plastic.

Whatever you like, to me a Rothmans 28SP is an mc28 with white Magteks, blue topped forks, se/sp discs, a dry clutch motor, o.e. Rothmans panels and looks like this.

I have a question, is there a way to tell if I have OEM bodywork? It seems to be good quality, but there are slight differences in the paint from most others I have seen, anyone know where there would be a part number stamped or anything.

Notice how the Rothmans badge on the side is behind the hole, on most the ones I have seen it is in front.

The oem panels normally have the part number moulded on the inside. That doesnt look like an oem Rothmans paint job to me, the positions of the stripes dont look right.

Well, they could be o.e. Honda panels with an aftermarket paint job, but that's not an o.e. Rothmans mc21 bodyset, this is how they all looked;
