one cylinder not firing

Sun Apr 13, 2008 8:27 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

G,day i have a problem with the front cylinder its exhaust runs cold while the other cylinder exhaust heats up as it should i have spark and fuel (i think) as end of plug is wet and barely blows any smoke out the muffler compared to the other side.I had a similar promblem with the rear cylinder burning out plugs after a couple 100ks so i pulled down the carbs and cleaned and checked the reeds as i thought it might b running lean on that cylinder all seems to be ok at the moment except that front one.Nothing down low but if i hold it flat it finaly hits band go to change gear it dies its like its starving for fuel down low would that cause exhaust to run cold and have no back pressure? thanks for any help.

In really simple terms you only need fuel, spark and compression for it to fire. It sounds like you have fuel so check for spark on the front plug, you'll need to pull both so it's easy to spin it over. My MC16 exhibited similar problems if the battery was low, when the regulator failed, and when the CDI died. So worthwhile running a volt meter across the terminals to check the health of the electrical system as well if you can get it running.

What do you mean by this? No compression?

So it sounds like the problem has only occurred since you had the carbs apart. Sounds to me like you have a fuel problem, i suspect the carb will need to come apart again and check float height and clean out all the jets and drilling's. If its only happened since you had the carb apart, the problem must lie there.
