Frame - Engine numbers

Thu Apr 24, 2008 1:15 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Guys,

Do the frame and engine numbers match on MC21's (or Hondas in general)?

I am looking at an SE/SP that has a wet clutch, supposedly modified, and want to be able to tell if it was a modification, or swapped engine.

Cheers

Is that the Fleabay special? Rolling Eyes

I believe he listed it as a SP model, which means it should have teh magtek rims, and it doesn't look like it.

AFAIK frame and engine numbers don't necessarily match up.

Has he got the original dry clutch housing and what not? You can also check the barrels and heads to see if they are SE/P.

Happy hunting

What features distinguish the barrels & heads of SE/SP models compared to a standard R model?

So is it the Fleabay special? Shocked

One set is marked "H"
The other set is marked "L"

One has 0.2mm barrel shorter than the other.
The alternate one has 0.2mm shorter head than the other.

I can't find the link, and the info is not at hand so I can't tell you exactly.

I just read this the other day, but can't remember which thread.
Recall its barrel H = R model, barrel L = SE / SP model.

Yep, it was the ebay one. It has magteks, a heap of gearbox spares etc. The frame # fits with the range specified on the NSR World parts page etc.

Similar to the other thread about the Rothmans SP, there are a number of inconsistencies with the fairing panels/stickers. Nothing that can't be fixed & returned to original spec. And it already has Tyga pipes, which were going to be the first item on my shopping list anyway.

As I mentioned in my other thread, I plan on saving all the original gear, putting on some aftermarket bodywork, some trick bits, and some tuned motor bits. But nothing that can't be returned to original some time in the furure.

Now I just need to put the NS400 back together and sell it to finance this little exercise.........

No, all NSR engines are mc16 xxxxxxx.

There is no easy way to tell if an NSR was R, SE, or SP that I know of, though obviously if parts are missing (dry clutch, fancy suspension, Magteks) it casts doubt on the fact. Then again, I have two pairs of Magteks and no genuine SP so that's 2 bikes that are either scrap or have no Magteks.

Yep, but still have to go and get it, hopefully this weekend. So far, everything has checked out OK for it being a genuine 92 SP.
