Help Honda stopped making mc16 ignition coils

Fri May 16, 2008 6:23 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all

My local dealer ordered an ignition coil (30520 kv3-771) £35.00 from Honda and were informed these are no longer obtainable.

where can i order a new one, or should i just order a similar coil off a newer nsr125, surely they cannot be that different?

thanks

wes

All you need to know is the primary and the secondary resistance...

that's not entirely true is it?

Winding resistance will vary if a different gauge wire is used, wouldn't different manufacturers do this just to stuff us up?

I hope he measure the resistance on the working coil atleast!

Yes, but ultimately what we're after is the mutiplication factor of a coil (which is all it does). You put 12v in and need 'X' volts out.

Now it's getting a bit steven hawkin.

to sum up:

an nsr 125 ignition coil cannot be used and I cannot purchase a new ignition coil, therefore my only option is to identify a coil with the same primary and secondary resistance that runs of a 12v battery.

does anyone know of a pattern part manufacturer in the uk?

thanks

wes

Companies like M&P do replacement coils for many bikes - I have some on my FJ1100. If you have one good coil, try measuring that, then contacting a spares supplier, or even a breaker and seeing what they have to match.

Dyna are a manufacturer, so perhaps a web search will help you?

If you don't mind used items these are less than £10 plus fees and shipping
