I have been reading as much as I can but cant find the differences between the wet clutch version (se/sp) or the dry clutch version. Could someone please tell me the performance difference etc, OH and I remember reading about something that one sounds better than the other??

oops i mixed them up, se/sp is dry and "R" is wet, my mistake.

Quick run-down:

All MC16's are wet clutch
All MC18 Mk1's are wet clutch (including SP models)
MC18R5K - wet clutch
MC18R6K SP - dry clutch
MC21R - wet clutch
MC21SE/SP - dry clutch
MC28R - wet clutch
MC28SE/SP - dry clutch

Performance differences negligable, although it would make sense that the dry clutch motors are capable of slightly more power as the clutch assebly doesn't have to spin in oil.

Race derived dry clutches don't contaminate transmission oil as they wear, and can be serviced within minutes. Fully synthetic racing transmission oils can be used with dry clutches.

Wet clutches are quieter and more neighbour friendly.

Dry clutches sound the business... especially if you run them without the dampening rubbers!

Formula 3 dry clutch kits were available for MC16 and MC18 Mk1 (rarer than hens teeth now), and many R and SE/SP motors will have had clutch swaps (both ways). MC18 Mk2, MC21, and MC28 assemblies are pretty much interchangeable.

MC16 and MC18 Mk1's will not take a later dry clutch without modification.
