I recently bought a 96 NSR 250 from a Detroit Police auction. It was recovered stolen bike and I plan to fix it up for my son.
The problem is, I realize it came w/o a key. Detroit PD ( actually the tow service) said "AS IS". I'm also told it should have a card (?) which slides in a slot under the speedo.
My question is...... can these be easily replaced. Hell, I can't even find the ignition switch. Any help would be appreciated by both me and my son.
There is no ignition switch, that's what the card does.
Contary to popular rumour new ones can be obtained but the only place I know of that can get them is Bat Motorcycles in the UK. They must have a contact at Honda because the card on it's own is listed as no longer available.
The alternative would be to get a whole new or 2nd hand PGM-IV and card (the card has to match the PGM) or switch all the electrics and steering lock from an earlier model. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
I've emailed Bat and am just waiting for a reply.
I assume the card is specifically programmed to a specific PGM. Will they need something identifying my PGM?
I also looked at some classifieds for a used PGMIV but didn't find any. If I locate one what would be a reasonable price?
there is a ? digit number on the back of the pgm this is the number bat will need to match a card to your pgm!!
as for second hand ones i have seen them go for £275+ with one card
Per the police, the owner says the card was in the bike when it was stolen but not there when recovered.
I'll take a look at the sites you guys listed. Anyone know the correct name of the Japan yahoo auction site.
Thanks,
Dan
which is considerably cheaper if I did the conversion correct it's on at $34 US with 13 hours to go. But, since Japanese is nothing I read or understand, I could be all wrong and the price, not to mention the compatability.
I would love to find a source in the US. Anybody out there know of anything in the US that might be able to put me together with a PGM IV card?
sgthui wrote:I'm still without a card. I contacted Bat and was told $187 US and 10-12 week wait.
As the original post is 8 weeks old a card could have been well on its way by now _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Well I've contacted Bat twice via email and got no reply. I sent an email directly to Adam with pictures of my PGM, title and frame #. I guess they are busy. New pgm's are available from Japan but you are looking at about $1500.00 total after shipping and insurance. $187.00 is cheap if you can wait the 8-12 weeks. Let us know how it goes.
