Dyno and pod filter question

Tue Aug 05, 2008 2:34 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys ,
I am just about to de-restrict my MC21 , the standard wire splices , exhausts and silencers with the airbox mods.
I was wondering if rather than drilling the airbox there were any disadvantages to removing the box completely and running pod filters as they seem a much simpler and neater way to go. . any thoughts ?

Also , can anyone recommend a Dyno operator in the south with good 2 stroke knowledge as I would rather have my bike re-jetted and tuned on a dyno by someone who knew what they were doing rather than trust my very limited 2 stroke experience.

Thanks in advance

I've used UNI pod filters on my MC28 and it made great power, 62hp.

Some old ladies would say the sound with the air box removed is a bit much. I like nothing more than the sound of open carbs at full tilt! This is one of the reason I have resisted an HRC/ram style air box. Cool yes, but I'd miss the sound.

Open carbs save lives...

Right with you Andre! I've had a HARC Pro ram air kit for about 3 years now, and just can't bring myself to fit it for the very same reason!

I took my '21 to Paignton Bike Night last week, and ended up having to ride 2/3 of the promenade it walking pace through the crowd... the dry clutch and open carbs were most certainly a head turner for the masses of GZBXS1-R owning Lemmings! Very Happy

Open carbs, dry clutch, pre-mix and stingers, a proper motor bike indeed!

Same on my old Ducati, the Delortos on the Paso bark nicely, The closed ram air system of my 748R is nice but it's too quite. The F1 style shower injectors don't work well out in the wind though!

You should see the carbs on my RS250R! 38.4mm with machined bell mouths.

Ive run mine without the lid. Whilst on full gas it sounds awesome, as with idle and inital crack of the throtle, but light cruising low throttle percentage stuff sounded a bit off. Ive gone back to 'Gods Lid' (lid with holes in it). Performance wise, my arse tells me there isn't much gain if any from a holed lid to no lid.
