Ring gap ?

Hi guys ,

I have just received my barrel from the platers and was wondering about the ring gap . What is the recomended ring gap for a race bike with wiseco pistons Question

Whatever Wiseco recommend!

There's no answer otherwise, as Honda only provide a figure for standard 250 pistons, which may not be suitable for your application.

Wiseco provide the info I believe. I seem to recall that they recommend the gap as a formula depending on the bore size.

Hi ,

I used the calculations and came up with a ring gap of 0.24 mm .
Does this sound normal to you guys ?
On the box it talks about 0.051 piston clearance .

Any comments or thoughts ?

manual shows stock ring gap to be Top 0.30-0.45 and the same for bottom. have no clue what that means for a wiseco piston/ring.

0.24mm sounds a little tight to me. I set a 59mm Wiseco piston ring at 0.35mm, and this works for me.

The reason i ask is because when i measured my rings they were at 0.4mm after half a season of racing with 62 bhp . Iput fresh rings only and got back up to 68.5 bhp with a ring gap around 0.2 something .
