1992 MC21 - do I need to rejet after wire splice and end can

Mon Mar 30, 2009 7:30 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi All,

Stock 1992 MC21. Has Yoshi carbon end cans and 2 inch cutaway in the airbox. All other parts are std 'R'.

Im preparing to do the 2 stage wire splice. Do I need to re-jet??

I can get hold a Kiss CDI unit to advance the ignition should I go this way and would that need re-jet? Im not after all top end as its used on the road.

All advise appreciated. Not too many NSR specialists here in New Zealand.

Thanks.
Very Happy Very Happy Ferg.

You need to consider rejetting after any modification. I'm sure you have already had to alter it to compensate for the air box mods.

thanks for the quick reply! Should I go with the kiss delimiter (1 for sale here in nz) or just do the 2 phase wire splice? Any difference to the outcome?
Now I need to re-jet, I assume I should do that after the splice or kiss mod has been done also?

I would do the normal wire splice and buy myself some jets with the money saved from not buying the Kiss box. The end result will be the same.

Thanks. just read the carb tuning section - its brilliant and im still taking it all in. One question is weather i use my R carbs (TA22 no slow jet )or the SP carbs (TA22b)?
Im looking for ease of setup really - its a road bike so would like to keep the oil pump so HRC and JHA kits are out.

Which carbs and what selection of Jets / needles sizes would you recommend me to purchase to give me good options. Im thinking b needles and a size either side on the mj and pj. Is this close? Any part numbers? Am i understand this correctly? Missing anything?

No advantage using R, SE, or SP carbs - they all do the same job.

Jetting without the power jets is easier for a race bike, but probably safer for a road bike.

Specific jetting discussion is not allowed in the public forums however. Either make your own assessment based on the information in the tuning section, or join as a supporting member to access the additional areas of the forum.

You will find it very difficult (probably impossible now) to buy HRC needles, holders, and emulsion tubes independantly of an HRC or Jha jet kit.

As Andy says you will struggle to get the parts on thier own, even complete kist are getting harder to come by now.

You will need a whole range of main jets though starting in the 130's and going up to the 200's depending if you end up running power jets or not, air box or pods etc.

Thanks Guys. appreciate the answers and can work it out with all the good ino if i can get some parts. Ive contactd Tyga in the uk for a hrc kit but they are out of stock (surprise surpirse - they seem to have mc28 kits though !) Any ideas pointers on where I can get any sort of kits or seperates? There is no-one over here! Credit card waiting! With the cans and airbox mod i dont want to risk it and cant do the wire splice and its killing me. I must be one of many who are frustrated by this. Patience patience.

Happy to support nsr world as a platinum member - what are the benefits of carbon vs platinum - hoping this will give me the best chance of sourcing bits and even more great advise?

Maybe i should put the stock cans back and cover up the airbox hole but hate the idea of doing that. What would you do?

You won't need the whole HRC jet kit for a wiresplice, cans and airbox mod; just a handful of mains (either side of stock) will sort you out for the best part.

This has just been discussed in a thread within the last few days, so have a search back through the Forum and you'll find it'll probably save you a lot of time and possibly the rather large expense of a jet kit from Japan!

Page two of the index there's a topic on mains, part number, and a cheaper alternative to buying genuine mains from Honda direct.
