hi all have you got any tips on running in as different people have different ideas,ie time and rpm,its had new pistons little ends rings et bores are fine just cleaned,as assumption is,,,,,,, and i dont want to go through this again, _________________ NSR250 MC18
I ride mine from home to the dyno then let it have it! Thats about 7 miles. It used to be 2miles before we moved lol. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
hmmmm...running in you say...what exactly are you trying to achieve here?*
There maybe half a case for taking it slightly easy on newly plated barrels. But there is near zero case for doing anything to run anything else in and you're likely to do more damage than good running new rings on old bores at low revs for dozens of miles.
Let it rev but don't make it work hard for a few miles and that'll do.
*this is a serious question. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Of course, everyone's opinion on this will vary, and just because I ran my motor for 2 miles, let Steve wring its neck on the dyno, and it then continued to make upwards of 66hp for two years with just piston ring changes at around 2000 miles, neither of us are saying this is how you should treat yours.
As with everything on this site, you need to interpret the information best you can for your given circumstances. You will find posts if you search that recount HRC's schedule for break-in of new components.
Personally I think there's a lot of crap talked about "running in" a modern 2-stroke, but that's just my opinion. _________________ Andy.

hi all yes andy you are correct,it is own preference,as im new to the nsr scene i dont want to assume just thorght id ask to see what you boys think, the pistons are in the bike now and should pick it up thursday, i gave the shop all the ino that fontty, andy, stephen rc45,and many others so kindly posted up,they said the pistons that i got [jap4performance] were bigger than old but are the right side of 0.039mm min clerance, like you guys say a,b,c markings mean nothig as it could of been replated 2 times before,so im praying it will be ok, _________________ NSR250 MC18
Just make sure you run it up til it's at normal operating temp and then check for leaks etc. That's the only reason I run them up... and if Steve had his way the leak test would be done on the way to the dyno I reckon! Why waste time, after all?!
I seem to recall the last leak test on mine was on the way back, and turned out to be a special transmission seal that was called for! We'd already caned it on the dyno for an afternoon by then too! _________________ Andy.
