Disgusted at treatment from one of the members of this forum

Tue Jul 07, 2009 9:34 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Apols, that this is my first post and it seems and bit of a whinge but to be honest I can't believe the treatment I've receievd from one of your members.
I found this forum on Saturday night and couldn't believe my luck when I found in your Classified Ads a post for a RGV front end.
http://www.nsr250.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7952
I'm doing up a NS400R from a basket of bits and need a front end so I phoned this guy - sidseismic. Exclamation
Although he advertised it as collect only we agreed that he would sort out a weight and I would arrange Parcelforce to collect (this was his idea - I thought ok). Last night we exchanged texts re. payment and he then said that he would weigh said items today and get back to me.
Then tonight I received a text from him stating "that someone had called today and collected the forks. Sorry it did say buyer to collect and do not really have time to pack them up and weigh them".
Now to me that is going back on an agreement - no call from him to say can you not collect I have an easier deal than yours - which could have been done but just thought it would save the 10hr round trip.
This is a bit off in my books - you should stand by your word. I don't know what you guys think but would you be happy if you were me?
I'll be interested to see what this forum says - got the texts so have the evidence that what I say is real - happy to pass these on.
This looks like a great forum but to be treated like this kind of put folks off. The moderators may delete this but I hope not.

I'd have been a bit pissed.. but to be honest from his point of view, someone has come and given him cash for something he had for sale, rather than refuse the sale as he'd 'promised' the parts to you then run the risk of you ducking out on the deal..

Live with it dude, unless the cash has been exchanged then no deal is set in concrete.

Mind you, that is bloody cheap for a complete rgv front end, you should have driven down with the cash if you'd wanted it that badly!

I can see this post getting deleted soon though.. happens a lot round here.

Shame your first dealing on the forum has been a bad one, hopefully it won't put you off staying.

Personally, I'd stand by what I'd said but wouldn't even bat an eyelid at someone not doing the same.

and;
People, by all means state your opinion but keep this thread respectful or it will vanish

I don't know the guy but sounds like a pretty weak reason to ditch a deal to me...........

On the weekend I "sold" my van to a guy who said he would take it for $1550 and pick it up tomorrow as is where is without the stereo in it.

I ripped the stereo gear out Saturday night and called him on sunday only to have him say............."Oh sorry man I should of text you sooner I changed my mind and can't come up with the money".................

...........My reply " SWEET DUDE CHEERS FOR BEING A ****!!!!!"

Rest easy knowing that the world is full of these type of people.......most of the good buggers ride NSR's so your safe here....... Rolling Eyes

Well, I don't know who is doing the deleting, as it's not me, but you can cut out the swearing, as kids read this forum! It's different in the Members area where it's not on public viewing, but not here please.

Last post/thread I deleted was a Classifieds post of yours duplicated in Open Discussion, Monkey. The last thread I "moved" was a jetting specific topic, and that can be found in the Members/Setup area now.

We try to keep things civil. There are enough forums on the net for folks to flame each other. Don't always get it right, but we try.

I can see both sides
It was a little rude for the seller just to sell to someone else and not inform you straight away.
However, if he DID contact you and say, sorry but someone has offered me cash on the spot, and i need the cash asap, so i sold it. Sorry to stuff you around . . . would that be ok with you ? I would be annoyed, but, accept it because i can appreciate the situation he was in.

On a further note. Did you ever accually CALL him, opposed to texting ?
Texting is a weak way to communicate, especially when buying.

In the end, i think the seller was slack not to contact you straight away, but, life goes on.

Totally agree, texting is crap.

Yep, did call the chap first off, chatted and then agreed the deal.

Text followed re. getting the forks weighed etc - was expecting the next text to tell me the weight.

The guy never even bothered to phone me and say someone else had gotten involved - so I believe that is being cheated out of the deal/agreement we had made. It was a low, cheap and rude thing to do.

Slack, yes - life goes on yep - but people like this should be banned from taking part in forums like these. What ever happened to people sticking to their word?

Craig sorry to hear about your experience.

However, I must say a deal is never complete until there is cash in hand. offering a deposit via paypal (or some other payment method) would have helped solidify the deal in the end.

Not saying the other guy was right and your wrong, just saying as a seller, I know I have had more people back out of "deals" that were agreed on via email/phone. I now go the route of what ever I am selling is for sale until I have been paid. Now if I have worked out a "deal" with someone, and I get another offer where they are willing to get me the money now and pick it up, I would make a quick effort to let the first person pay me and close the deal before I take the other offer, but I won't be sitting around for a day or two waiting for that to take place.

Thanks Charles, money wasn't the issue - was waiting for the payment details (payment via paypal so his email address) to be sent to me. I have the texts to prove what I am saying. This was a solid deal. Seems like buyer beware of certain sellers - I never got the offer of picking this item up once the second guy had entered the picture.
Cheers Craig

My grandpa always told me when I was a kid "in all things, give thanks". I never understood why nothing really bothered him. Look at it this way - did you ever consider that things already worked out for the best? You may need that money for something else very soon whether it be pleasure related or for emergency health care or a breakdown of appliances at your house, etc etc. You may luck out because maybe something in the parts was defective and will need major $$$ to repair right away. Maybe the package was destined to be lost in the mail giving both of you grief and aggravation until resolved. Hopefully you understand. I'm 36 and only recently began to live this way. It really is less stressful when you quit spazzing over every little thing in life. I love guns, motorcycles, and WWII reenacting and therefore have plenty to go nuts over if I wanted to.

If I were you I'd take a chill pill, move on, and be happy you have the opportunity to pursue your wishes. You didn't lose anything but a little time. Embrace this great forum and use it to find what you want/need and quit sweating the things you won't even remember this time next year. Trust me.

Craig

Craig, have you also gone onto the Esso petrol users forum, and the Tesco customer forum to colmplain there, since he (probably) uses those products too?

I do find it a little dissapointing that your thread title suggests this forum has something to do with the guy's manners. Confused

Sure he placed an ad on the site, but it's hardly fair to Andy and the site if things went sour is it?
