Determining the Bike type based on the engine serial number

Thu Aug 27, 2009 7:08 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Is it possible to tell what model bike the engine came from by looking at the engine serial number? My engine was replaced with an SP at some point, so I'm interested in knowing what model it came from.

Cheers

Ashley

Does it have round or Hexagonal cylinder heads?

I don't really know what you mean by cylinder head. Do you mean this? :

F**k

I wondered what that was for a min!

A picture without the fairing in the way may help a tad though.

Most likely a 21 motor. Not giving much away with the photo though.

'18 surely? Smaller head nuts?

Or looking again, maybe not........

Basically we need a better picture of the whole head, not just a fraction of it through the v-piece.

I see that I provide you with the entertainment of this fun game of guessing Smile

Thanks, I'll take the tank off at some point, hopefully tomorrow, and take a photo of the other cylinder head.

OK so I managed to do it today, was away at the weekend so didn't get a chance. I'm off to Berlin in a minute so I had to do it quickly; here is the best picture I could get:

Is this enough to identify the engine type?

Cheers

Replacing that spark plug boot should be first on your list. Laughing

The motor overall doesn't look bad though. No real signs of rusty nuts or anything.
