its going to be difficult, expensive and your bike will be much slower with the 250 four stroke motor in it. This is a very strange project idea! What is the inspiration for trying to do the transplant? _________________ After years of moaning about immigrants now i am one...
i love my nsr to death but its just costing me heaps in fuel, im getting 150 km's to a tank, that worst than some cars. is there anyway i can help that?
150km to a tank is not that bad the mc18`s tank is not big i think 12-13 litres . Is it standard ?
It would be cheaper to buy a cbr250 they do look very simular to the nsr`s fairings are nearly the same.
Nsr`s in australia are getting very rare don`t want to loose another one that goes just for fuel usage
i don't know any modifications or set up tips that will give better fuel economy but getting the CBR250 engine to work in the NSR will be much more costly and difficult than continuing to run the bike with its 2 stoke engine. As i said before, its performance will be roughly halved too.
Its also worth noting that the CBR250 revs very high so its fuel economy won't be particularly good when its being used in its power band either.
To be fair the NSR isn't really intended to be an economical machine, it does comparatively well on fuel just by virtue of having such a small engine but it was designed to produce a very high specific output and be used as a sports machine, rather than a (cheap to run) commuter. Not that it can't fullfill both roles if called upon by the rider of course. My bike was being used as a rough commuter by its previous owner.
To be honest i don't know enough about their fuel consumption to tell you if yours is drinking more than it should, but i'm sure someone who uses theirs on the road often will be able to give you some info. _________________ After years of moaning about immigrants now i am one...
yeah i think its standard, the guy i bought it off said he rebuilt the engine. maybe thats just how it is. i would keep it but i need all new fairings aswell. where would i get them?? also is there anyway of putting electric start on it or anything? (probs a stupid question)
im thinking about putting a cbr 250 engine in my nsr 250 mc18 bike, do you guys think its possible??
No, the CBR250 engine (which is just a sleeved down CBR400 engine) is considerably wider than the space between the NSR frame spars. It will not fit. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread

Even if a CBR 250 engine did fit, it would be one of the worst mods ever heard of on the forum _________________ Rich

now now, the CBR250 motor isn't a bad one and it sounds bloody crazy, a 19000rpm redline and cam driven gears see to that.
As far as I'm aware the mc22 is pretty common in Australia as it was bought in offically by Honda.
They're as fast in stock form as any other grey import 250, it's just that getting much more than 45bhp from them isn't going to happen.
But that's enough for some fun, I managed to not come last in the DP F400 races at Anglesey with my mc18 still (unknown to me) running it's 45bhp restriction.
Maybe if the UK wasn't (and hadn't always been) obsessed with straight line power we'd have got some of these little screamers. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
You could try fitting a smaller rear sprocket to the NSR, which would gear it up and use less revs for the same road speed.
Is there a lot of black soot on the tail pipes? The bike may be runing quite rich.
How fast do you normally ride? Do you try to always be in the highest gear? How far is your commute - enough to get the motor warm or all on choke? _________________ MC21SP Plaything
