Has anyone run a half "H" half "L" engin

Wed Mar 24, 2010 9:42 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Just wondering if anyone has run one cylinder with an H barrel and head and the other an L barrel and head. Do the different combinations put out the same power? I'm asking because I have one lone H barrel and in a pinch I'd like to be able to use it (with the appropriate head of course).

Why in the world did they make 2 combinations anyway?

Thanks,
Craig

Yep, my original '21 came that way. Not sure if it made any difference to the power. I certainly didn't notice once I'd "corrected" the setup.

My understanding is that it was a work around to give a few more options re production racing rules - such as raising compression while still using standard parts.

If you think the R/SP cylinder setup is difficult, be thankful you didn't buy a TZR 3XV.

The combinations are to allow them to make high compression engine without modifying any stock parts.

And yes, I've raced on a half L half H motor. Once assembled it's pretty irrelevent which you've got as long as they're a matched set.

Thanks for the responses. That was my guess, but I just wanted to make sure. Pretty sneaky of them to do that!
