Are there any motocross shops near you? Or who do mail order delivery?

Never heard of GN2 oil...

You could do a lot worse in the US than have Redline ship you some decent oil! I think they stock Castrol TTS and Motul fully synthetics. I doubt you're going to go through it that fast, but even if you do, it's nothing to them to ship you a gallon of the stuff.

Always use good, fully synthetic oil with a proven record. People recommend stuff for a reason! I doubt very much there's anything "wrong" with GN2, but it's not a name that readily rolls off the tongue for an NSR in any country I know of!

Remember, that sticker on the NSR is probably getting on for 20 years old... oils have moved on a long way since then!

GN2 Oil Revealed

Tue Mar 23, 2010 6:07 am » Post: #4 » Download Post

GN2 is the original Honda's own 2T performance oil sold for the NSR in Japan. i bought it in Japan and took some to the USA, i think it is actually semi-synthetic, but in stock trim the NSR is not that stressed, since the engine is restricted.

I actually have been running my MC28SP on GN2 and is running well, never fouling plugs, etc.

I heard that Castrol TTS is not that good, and some people complained about it. Is that right?

Hi Matt,

Welcome to the forum... My opinion is that you will hear bad feedback for every oil or for everything in this world... But the main thing is that what the most people saying about something... I have used in the past the TTS or Motul 710 and both were great... The people probably who said that the TTS isn't good could have other problems in their bikes but they thought that it was because of the oil... Who knows...???

I hope you understand what I mean because my English are #%^&$...!!!!

Regards
Michael

I have used TTS in my NSR for the last ten years, including a couple of seasons racing it and suffered no problems.

Thanks Michael for the welcome message/thanks guys.

I am very happy to hear this because I like Castrol as a brand and I saw thru the forum that I can get some TTS from Redline in the USA. Also less expensive than Motul.

I guess I have to drain the oil tank to do that. What is the best procedure?. I am wondering if I can suck it out from the top with a suction pump, unless there is an easy way from the bottom fitting of the oil tank.

Welcome your thoughts.

Very Happy:

you could pull the pipework off the pump to drain the oil tank.

You can top up with TTS if you've been using GN2. Semi-synthetics and fully synthetics mix no problem. You cannot however mix synthetics with castor based oils such as A747 or HTX.

As bushman says, if you're worried about diluting the TTS too much by just topping up, just pull the main feed off the pump and drain as much as you can, then top off with TTS. You'll be on 100% TTS then within 25 miles or so.

I would just run it until the oil light comes on. Then top up the tank with the new oil. This will save the hassle and mess of draining the tank.
No need to waste perfectly good oil?
Is the oil in the tank very old, or of unknown age?
Of course, it`s entirely up to you.

I didn't want to suggest that, just in case the sensor doesn't work, the bulb's blown, or there's simply no bulb in the holder!

Don't laugh... someone on here, who shall remain nameless, seized a motor because that light never came on because there was no bulb in the holder!!! Shocked

Well pointed out Andy. I should`ve thought of mentioning that too.
Can`t remember, but I think there is a check of the oil light when you turn on the ignition when in neutral? Or is it when you hit the kill switch when in neutral with the engine off? Confused

Yes, it's a combined ignition/oil warning light, but I don't think he knew that back then, or maybe just didn't notice! Laughing

He did say though, "the bloody oil light never came on!", so we checked it and found there was no bulb! Rolling Eyes
