I'll be jetting my track bike over the next few days. Yesterday I bought 5 gallons of fuel and mixed it with my (very expensive) A747 oil. Then I read on here it should be used "immediately". Will a couple days be okay, especially if I shake up the gas can before putting fuel in the tank each time? Anybody had any problems with seperation?
Yes, a few days will be fine. It does break down quickly though, so yes you should ideally only mix it the same day or night or two before you use it.
Make sure you give the can a bloody good shake before you pour it in... something you should do with any pre-mix, not just castor based ones! _________________ Andy.

I generally mix my fuel as I use it. I have a smaller 2 gallon fuel can I mix in. So just before I go out for a session, I will mix a gallon or so at a time, put it in the bike and run the session. This way I don't have any left over pre-mix (or as little as possible) at the end of the day/weekend.
The leftover useally goes in my crappy push mower (which after years of abuse, still starts right up and runs strong!). Also when using A747 and race fuel, you wll want to drain your tank after the day/weekend. Don't really want to keep it in the tank for extended periods of time.
Oh and also you will want to drain your carbs as well when your done.
To be fair, if you're running a motor so hot you think it needs A747 you should probably be more concerned about the effect of leaving your (no doubt equally expensive) race fuel open to air.
Most proddy 250 racers I know just run decent quality synthetic oil. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
FYI Fontyyy I'm only running it to irritate you. Hopefully you find it hard to fall asleep for several nights now wondering "why oh why does Craig find it necessary to run A747 in his bike when he hasn't even yet learned to drag a knee??".
It doesn't irritate me - I've got shares in Castrol, but it does amuse me a little
Back to the subject;
Unless you're running leaded race fuel (or Avgas) A747 is the wrong oil, X77 is Castrol's top 2t race oil for unleaded fuel.
And both are castor based and have a higher shear strength than synthetic oil but they (and A747 especially) are a pain to mix, don't like being kept in the cold, don't store well, are expensive and will gum your rings up. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread

So how does switching to TTS for all of my NSRs sound? I use it for the injected (street) bike, so I could buy more of it at a time and have a large stash at home to use for whichever one needs it.

Fine, I switched from X77 to synthetic oil in my racebike. All I did was dump the last bit of fuel/x77 from the tank into the genny and fill up with a fresh fuel/synthetic oil mix. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Yuck ... I just got done cleaning out the fuel tank and carbs on the track bike. Of course I had added a bunch of fuel to the tank right before it got windy and started spitting rain and snow, so I decided to leave for the day. Having that A747 mix in it made me want to get it out of there asap so I did that today and had to go through the slow and messy process of draining the tank and removing the carbs to get them cleaned out. I really don't want to have to go through that again!
The TTS will be safe to premix and not worry about if it's in there for a couple weeks right? I'll try and not mix too much at a time but this cleaning it out is a major pain!
Thanks for the replies. It'll be nice to have one oil for the bikes instead of two.
