Changed the gearbox oil on my newly accuired MC18 today, warmed the engine and had the bike level and upright, undone the oil filler and a fair bit of oil emptied itself from the filler hole. This cant be normal surely? i mean for starters how is it possible to get that much oil in the engine? i take it the filler neck is the only way to get oil in there? Is something wrong internally?
Thanks andy, dont worry i'll kick my own ass for not searching.
Thats a bugger then as ive just refilled the gearbox oil and have a full tank of 2T. I take it the bike can still be riden without causing any damage as this is one of them problems that can go unnoticed for some time?
It'll all pour out of the overflow once up and running. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Accept it's happened, and that it's a bit of a pain in the ass, but just one of those things!
Drain/replace the transmission with some NEW oil, remove the pump and press the seal back in to place, and refill the 2T tank with quality injector oil.
What happens when it comes to the time you need to replace the rings or fix a crank seal? Think "oh well, if I rev it hard enough it runs OK..." and then wait for the motor to grenade itself? I can't see any difference! _________________ Andy.

No your right andy, i didnt intend on using the bike like this indefinatly, just until i had more time to sort it but it looks like an hours work at most so your right why risk it. I just thought with it being a common problem that can go unnoticed it wouldnt do it much harm to use it for a day or 2.
It can only go unnoticed until the motor seizes as there's no 2T left because it's all in the gearbox!
I think when you reflect on the question you will understand my despair at it!
It's only common in so much as it's been asked about 3~4 times on the forum... over the last 10 years and between 2137 registered users! _________________ Andy.

It happened to me also. I keep my 2t top tank full and when the level dropped while not riding it I knew there was a problem. I just did a quick search and the answer was there.
Well thank god for the forum, its already potentionally saved me more than the subscription cost, off the get some sealant now.
Please excuse my stupidity in thinking i could run the bike like this, just anxious to ride the bloody thing. The 2T oil had been topped right up and upon checking this morning theres a good proportion of it gone and ive only started it twice!! could have been very costly. Once again thanks to all that helped and those that took despair at my stupidity
Ok im about to tackle the job, ive read up on what to do but just 1 thing isnt clear, well to me anyway!
If i fully bleed the 2T oil through the pump is there still the need to run premix on 1st starting the engine?
Is it at all possible to bleed the oil to carb supply lines without mixing up premix? Dont slate me, i will mix some up if i have to but i dont have anything to measure the ratio with, if i have to i'll go and buy something to measure it with but id rather not as its gunna be hassle today.
