if you take out the four screws holding the seat unit to the sub frame you may be able to move it enough to dis-engage the lock mechanism???

Had a fiddle with it but i dont think the seat plastics have anything to do with the lock mechanisum, well its not realeasing the seat anyway. Ive managed to move the seat unit and bend the undertray down enough to see inside but cant find the rear light mounting bolts and tbh i dont think unbolting them is going to help as i still wont be able to remove the light due to the undertray being in the way.I think i'll just cut my loses and source a new undertray, then cut though this one and sort the lock out.

Is the lock part of the seat flap like on an MC21?

No, the lock sits behind the pillion seat, the "boot lid" IS the pillion seat...

See pic here, if the lock turns and the seat doesn't release either the seat's caught on something else or the lock itself is damaged.

The key does take a wiggle or 2 to get it fully in but once in turns smooth as ever and springs back as it should so the seat must be caught on something

Ah right, it is part of the opening section though, there isn't a cable between the lock and the mechanism.

Hmmm, it does look from the diagram like you can remove the seat unit bolts and lift it off in a single piece, then access the lock from below.

Both sides of the seat unit do come off in 1 piece but the pilion seat needs to come off first

The rear fairing has been put on with the lock lug on the wrong side of the release . I did it on mine . I am shore i took the tail light cover of and used a screw driver to push the release if that fails try take the scerws out of the rear fairing and lift the back up enough to get the lock lug over the release and back on the right side.

Success!!! dunkenb had the right theroy,

4 bolts out.
move the seat unit back as far as possible.
lever the rear seat up and get the brightest torch you can find to shine in there.
Use another lever to force the seat unit back a little more and you can just see the lock mechanisum.
Then used a lever shaped screwdriver to release the seat.

I did try this at first but didnt have the balls to force the seat unit back far enough to see the lock.
