Rebuild question

Sat Jul 31, 2010 1:15 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi Guys
I am getting a new crank will arive next week . I Put a second hand crank in a few months ago that was spose to be OK but the centre seal was gone. I also put in new pistons and rings ran the bike for prob 20 minutes and found there was somthing wrong . So when i put the new crank in will it be ok to use the gudgen pins and bearings ? I am thinking the little amount of use they had they will be good to run .
Thanks for input

If that's all the running they've done then yeah i'd use them again.

The pins and small-end bearings would probably be fine even with a couple hundred miles on them... but don't ever use the circlips again.*

*Using second-hand circlips is reserved for the extremely desperate "need to fix this within 15 mins to get back up and running before the next session" brigade, when the new clip has just sprung out of your hands into the land of lost pens and odd socks that you can never find!

Of course, you will be able to get away with only replacing two clips if you are canny! As long as you only remove one clip per piston, then you only need to replace one per piston! Wink It's not that a circlip is an expensive part, but not that many people carry endless supplies of them!

I know that Fontyyy... and you will regret it one day, all for the sake of a 50p spring clip! Confused

I could regret lots of things I've done and I've certainly made many a poor decision far worse than re-using a piston clip but hey...life's a journey not a destination Wink

I agree, in part*, but it doesn't advocate the suggestion of poor procedure or bad advice.

*So, just when are we off to a land afar to make some more poor decisions?! Wink
