Wed Apr 27, 2005 12:21 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

does the standard card still work in a mc28, thats been modified to suit the 030 card, ie can i use the standard card for road use, and the 030 when i do track days without having to undo the wire splice

No, the standard card will not work with a modified harness.

You can however fit a switch instead of hard-wiring the wiresplice, then that way you can run either card depending on the position of the switch.

I have thought about doing a kit as I'm a bit of a whiz on wiring (even if I do say so myself! I've just made a complete custom wiring harness for a Lotus with a Cosworth turbo motor for a friend!) but I need to get my hands on an MC28 for research and the relevant connectors!

Alex Fang (formerly of nsr250.com) has done the very job on his MC28, and it is a very effective solution.

No M-Max box is available for the MC28. The HRC card was only ever designed to work in conjunction with an HRC race harness, which is wired differently from a stock road harness.

The wire-splice in the tuning section is exactly the same as what Jha does if you were to take your bike to them! You will lose several warning lights and the speedo using an HRC card.

There are some really nice digital speedo's that the guys in Japan use on their MC28's, but I dare say they aren't cheap!

The usual course of action is to simply fit a bicycle speedo when using an HRC card.

I'm not sure if the units the Japanese guys are using are for bicycles or some kind of trick lap-timers for cars (thinking about how they like to heavily modify Skylines and the like), you'll need to do some research on the Japanese sites or find a good speed-shop like Ripspeed or similar that may be able to give you some advice.

In the mean time, I'll see if I can dig out some pictures I have of them fitted to some MC28's. I know I have a real nice picture somewhere of a unit with a trick neon blue display!

Maybe try dropping Jamie Wheeler a line. He has an MC28 and so do a number of his friends. One of them is bound to know what is the latest trick part to use!

thanks mate, i made a bit of a guess in how much this nsr project is going cost me in total and it comes to about £3500 + people think you are mad when you say the cost, but there is something about nsr's i dunno what it is but i honestly think they are the best road bikes ever built.

Do you want to borrow mine?
I can leave it with you for a while and try to blow up the 23 instead!
I'd REALLY like to have a switch and it will be usefull info to see if the jetting still works.

That would be great Clarkie... once I've finished Monkey's bike!! Rolling Eyes

Seriously though, I'll have a look at Llandow (you're still doing the track day, right?) to find out the simplest way to make a kit, then research the parts. After that, sure, I'd love to use yours as the test-bed! Very Happy

Not had all the Euro dates confirmed yet.
We'll sort something out!

Now I can't remember what happend with a spliced std loom, but with the HRC loom the std card still works. I would think that it should therefore work with the modified std loom.

The stock card would only work when the wire splice was "switched off" on Alex's bike.
