hi
well it appears my new nsr is is need of a top end rebiuld as i can see some scratches on the piston and rings when looking up the exhaust port .so i really need some advise on how to go about it.my first question is can i remove the cylinders without removing the whole engine from the frame as you can on other bikes?what do i need to know about removing the power valves?do i just undo the cables or is there more to it?
i really would appreciate any advise you can give me as i would really like to get this thing on the road and enjoy the bike, just hope the cylinders are ok.
Hi Mate
It is a easy job to do . I don`t rely on standard piston sizes you are best to mesure the bore and send the size of to tyga to get the right pistons .
yip, real easy. I just did my first top end rebuild, used the info from the main site. nsr-lover posted link.
You can leave engine in frame and you can get everything you need from tyga.
Do you want to remove/replace the valves or just disconnect them?
hi
thanks for the replys, well i have got the the front cylinder off,the cylinder is in good shape but the piston has some scoring on the exhaust side.
i have only disconected the power valves, hopefully i can reconnect them without the need to adjust.
goin to order the parts from tyga,i have a c barrel but will measure it and get the right size pistons.
i was always going to do a top end rebiuld but wanted to actually ride it for a bit first,oh well at least i know it has been done and ready to go.
may even get new exhausts as it still has the originals then do the wire splice
While you are at it you may as well do the bottom end too.
You mentioned 1 cylinder running cold. I didn't read the whole thread cause I'm lazy, but I have had that problem with 2 different engines.
Both times it was the crank seals failing. I checked everything else first only to find the problem deep inside.
You also have some damage to the cylinder and piston. Same as me except I discovered this at 180 kph.
yep had a blocked slow jet, that cylinder idled properly and got up to temp after i unblocked it,has been a bit of a learning curve since i got the bike a week ago,i want to go for a ride
