I put mine together a few years ago and wanted to see if anyone has done it. http://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrg500/
How did it come out. How do you like it? And so on.

watfordhorn.....Your bike is absolutely stunning.

Not often does my stomach pain from coveting someones bike , but yours..wow!

I notice the frame wasn't notched for the kickstart, nice job. Do you know if a rzv500 motor would fit equally as nice?

Would love to pick you brain about that bike sometime.

Shocked

Thanks, If you pay shipping on top I will send it to you for £7500 Smile

Unfortunatley I am not able to say I built it, it was done by a UK special bike builder that has done loads of these conversions and he did a cracking job on it.

PM me if you need/want any more info.

You've probably seen this but just in case:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZr-PncUjnk

Not sure what the frame is, the video poster just says: "home made with RC30 swingarm".

The riding in the vid is really impressive too!

I have just started a project like this with a RG500 motor in a MC21 frame with 500GP style bodywork. If you dont mind me asking you dont have the drawings and measurments for the engine mounting do you to save me a load of hassle and time.

Sorry, I didn't keep any records of the build. I did do a lot of research on swing arm to counter shaft sprocket and rear axle center line points.
Be ready to cut that frame to the point of no return. This is not a project for the light hearted, if you get it wrong it's junk! I've built and help build a lot of bikes (not like this) mostly Flat trackers and raod racers, but it all has the same concepts for a stree bike.
The motor only goes in one place. Not much movement. One of the hardest parts was figure out the rear shock mount. Because you'll see when you get to that point, it takes a lot of thinking to get everything BOLTED together with two chambers it the way.
Then you'll need to fabricate a whole new sub frame because all your mounts are gone. Pipe are in the way and so on and on and on. Don't forget you'll need to service it too. After the body is off, I remove 10 bolts and can adjust exhaust valves. 8 of those are the chambers.
Caution; Think long and hard before you start. After you start, don't give up till IT takes YOU for a ride.

It's 310lbs with half a tank of fuel.

How is that bike to ride?

I have both, the RG and NSR (MC18) but not in a hurry to dismantle both to make one bike

That's a big question. I could be hear all day telling you how it works.

Lets just say it works, rides and handles a lot better then I anticipated!

I had my NSR down to about 271 lbs, dry. This one is about 300-305 ( it had half a tank on the scale). The motor is roughly 30lbs more ( I think, it was a long time ago) + two more pipes. I took off weight everywhere I could. All the steel I put on is chromoly very thin wall. Alum front rotors are less than half of stock. Even the mounting bolts are hollow. I made my own Billet Alum side stand.

Most all the extra weight is right in the center of mass. I scaled everything to make sure. Outside of center it got lighter. It feels just like your bike with a full tank, you feel the difference, but it's not like having your girl on the back or something.

I've ridden with my buddies R1 in tight twisties and keep up just fine and he's a better rider. I've drag raced his 900RR super-light with a fresh 954 motor ( just playing around, not a full 1/4 mile) and stay right with him. First gear is all but useless. I short shift as soon as the wheel lifts( full tank around 4-5000rpm, less than half a tank 3-3500rpm) it's best not to let it get into the power! After that your go to go. 2 gear can be a little tricky too at times.

I let my buddy ride it. He pulled the trigger hard in first ( I warned him!) and the tank found his soft parts and put him in so much pain he had to pull over. He said it wheeled so fast he had to stand up and bang! Right in the you know whats.

Needless to say, it's very thing I'd hope it would be and more...because it's mine. I've got the only one ( when I rode it the first time, it was the only one on the planet!) maybe not now. I've had a 1990 Honda RC30 # 236, turbo charged Yam VMAX ( 220hp) my GS1150 rat bike from hell, the RG500, NSR250, Walter Wolf RG250, Rothmans NS250, CBR600 The list goes on and they ALL pale by comparison!

It wasn't ease. Took a LONG time to put together, lots of parts ( I had and still have no money) , so if you can't buy it, make it.

Sorry this is so long. But you just can't ask me questions like that without stirring my emotions on this evil little creation.

I wanted an NSR500, this is as close as I'll ever get. it turns heads, drops jaws and is my pride and joy.

Cool

I forgot to say. I did it because the NSR broke. I love the NSR's handling and the RG's power. So I did the only thing I could. I built my dream bike.
