Hi guys,
Im new to the forum, im from Sydney Australia, and have just purchased a 1992 MC21 SE. i bought it in a non running state.
I replaced the plugs, It started but revved its head off and had no throttle control whatsoever. i then realised the idle adjustment was all the way in, holding the slides about a quater open. I backed this all the way off and now the bike starts and runs great sounds really crisp.
Now the bike will not idle at all. and i am running out of ideas. i pulled the carbs out and took the bowl off. it all looked ok.
Hi Mate
Welcome to the forum and nsr`s
At what rpm can you get it to idle ?
I would clean out the carbs to start with . Check for air leaks
Also check the air screw adjustment .
If it runs good other than idle is probably a carb prob .
If that dosn`t work you should pressure test the crank as crank seals can leak .
Good luck
1+ on what nsrdownunder said.
Check air screw adjustment (that's easy - it's that little thumb screw, usually sticks out near the choke).
Next, if it doesn't work - pull your carb off and clean the jets out (particularly the idle jet also called the pilot jet). Start it, warm it up and adjust your air screws with the airbox off (so you can get at them). Screw them equally in/out. Should be about 1.5 turns out.
The pickup`s are the two black things just around the flywheel so what NSR lizard is saying is clean them up and clean the lumps that are on the flywheel . The pickups use them for the ignition timing
Look here : http://www.nsr-world.com/tuning/250-tuning/ignition/ at the top of the page the pickups are what the bolts number 9 hold on
Thanks guys i will pull the carbs off and clean them up.
I just bought a bottle that i can put some clean fuel in and run a hose to the carbs so i can run the bike with the tank off. I will report back with the results, i'm really hoping its not a crank seal
