No Spark then weak spark n zap!!!???

Fri Aug 05, 2011 7:24 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

G'day Folks Very Happy

Day 7 ... Go to kick her over, and i had no spark. I checked every contact cleaned everything replaced fuse.

Checked still no spark ...

Starting writing this ..

Checked again and theres now a weak spark ..

Couple more checks on the 2nd plug .. no spark on the 2nd one and got zapped from the first one through the HT Lead when it wasnt even earthing to anything.. Then remembered when i was cleaning them i kept hearing electrical zaps every now and then.

Few more zaps .. then we have a weak spark on the 2nd one too??

The plugs are looking good not wet, oil fouled etc so its not them - i think the coil pack / HT leads are on there way out -- also noticed at around 5000RPM there is a definate change in power like an on off , im guessing this is where its most noticable in the rev range.

Can i use MC21 packs and leads on a MC18 or would i be running MC21 anyway as its a MC21 engine?? Is there a difference or they are the same anyway?

OR am i completley off and its something else like an earthing issue? I checked the main earth connection and it was very clean and tight.

Cheers
Lee

Start with the easy things first... like checking your battery.

battery all good 100% on my charger
run stop switch has been pulled apart and contacts cleaned
all contacts on the coil packs cleaned
fuse was ok but replaced anyway

ive found the ignition derestriction page and noticed the all in one or so i thought leads coil pack and connector caps actually have seperating connector caps.

Ive pulled mine off and seen the HT Lead wire isnt looking to fresh so ive cut it back and taken the 5mm extra off the sleeve - sprayed the inner cap with some contact cleaner. Didnt get a chance to check the spark as i was already late for work, so will have to check it out tomorrow to see if that was the issue.

Will post up when i get a result as hopefully this will help others to with some hard starting issues

I've got nsr125 coils and leads on my mc18 r5k. Work a treat, and a darn sight cheaper than nsr250 ones.

what gap have you got on your plugs?

What sort of volts do you get on your battery? Was that on charge or with nothing connected to the terminals?

Yeah i miss my nxr a lot, only thing it needed to be was rwd.
