Prices going up.

Sat Aug 06, 2011 9:20 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Is it me or are 2 stroke prices going up again?

Looking at 28s similar to mine and they are pretty expensive.

Reason I have been looking is that I wanted to bring a couple of RDs in to Jersey and sell one and keep one.

Couple of years ago you could get a tatty YPVS for 750-1000, now it seems you won't get much for that but a basket case!!

RGVs are similar, mate of mine bought some a couple of years ago and again they have gone up.

My plan was to get a 21 for tracking but it seems I should have parted with my hard earned a few years ago instead.

Bugger.

No RGV is worth £750 let alone a grand!

I sold my RGV with a fresh top-end for £300, and felt guilty! ROTFLMAO

I sold my TZR125 for more than double that! Very Happy

Looking back on it, I think I should've given the guy £300 for taking it! Laughing

My mate is going to look at an RGV SP (I think thats what it is) around 4K I think.

I sort of thought that the prices of strokers would have remained static.

Although there was an article in Practical Sportsbikes mentioning 6-8K NSRs in the near(ish) future as the Jap imports are drying up.

Those 6-8k bikes are all gonna be dealers jumping on the bandwagon and chancing their arm with bikes that have only had a titivate straight out the crate, there are some idiots, not many i would think, who are prepared to pay this, but why would you when there are plenty of used good private ones around for less than half that money. Just look at the dealer ads from some of the established NSR dealers, some of their high priced bikes have been hanging around for months, some keep popping up almost a year later. Too many jumping on the bandwagon, and if their not careful, gonna get their fingers burned.

No, you can still get MC21s for less than a grand. Mostly because they're all rooted now.

You need to wait, private sales are rare, and this is the wrong time to buy.

Well that depends on your definition of rooted I guess, but I'm talking worn out and ready for a major overhaul/minor restoration. Once those bikes are gone, I reckon that'll push the price up big time. Even the Aprilia RS250s seem to have hit bottom dollar, and they always commanded a premium (here at least).

Oh ok, to me rooted means ready for scrap!

Two strokes will always need a makeover sooner or later, but since pretty much all the parts (or alternatives) are available for pretty reasonable money, there's no reason they can't be kept on the road.
