HRC may have won the GP but...

Its not all good news for them, my MC 18 lasted only two laps on its first track day and my first ride out on it. I came in after two laps because the bike was gutless and just aswell I did, my belly pan was full of oil and it was just starting to get on the rear tyre, smoking bad from the pipes and the motor due to the oil all over it. I knew the pipes were carboned up pretty bad when I had no power but after I shut it off they were still smoking and you could smell all the crap burning, I was almost engulfed in smoke Sad . I parked it up and got the KR1 out instead and the day was saved.
Had a look see today and found the oil leak so thats ok and cut the pipes open on one of the seams and they are pretty bad so its off to be chemically dipped and welded up and new Tyga cans will be going on.
My first impressions of the NSR were good, it feels pretty stable and handles ok, mind you I never got up to any sensible speed. Compared to the KR1 it felt different and more civilised, the KR1 is just so light and manic its great to ride. Hopefully the NSR will be as fast when sorted Smile

So what was the cause of the problem? It shouldn't be leaking oil.

It was actually two stroke oil leaking on the motor. I drained the tank and disconnected the lines from the pump to the carbs but didnt remove the tank or the pump. There was some left in the tank apparently even though I left the line off to drain for 24 hrs and this started to pump out on the motor. Stupid mistake on my part for not double checking it.

There would have been some oil left inside the pump chamber, my thoughts are on that is that it should have had a catch bottle on it, since oil is very slippery stuff.

So did you remove the oil pump and blank it off or will you put a catch bottle there?

Sounds like the oil pump seal has dropped out which means it just pumps the 2t into the gearbox, when the gearbox fills up it just pumps it out of the gearbox breather. Very common problem and easy to fix, remove the pump and bond the seal back into place.

Disconnecting the oil feed pipes wont stop it happening as the pump will still be pumping oil.

With HRC's current dominance in moto gp I'm sure they will have plenty of spare time to work on a fix for your mc18 Very Happy

We'll I have to blame someone and I like to go straight to the top Very Happy. I pulled the pump and tank off now which is what I should have done last week. And there was a bit left in the tank, not much but there must be a dead leg in the tank where a small amount of oil sits and doesn't drain out when you just pull the hose off but when ridden works its way into the line and then the pump. I won't need a catch tank as all items to do with the pump are coming off, my bike is for the track only at this stage.I had actually ran the bike around the car park a few times to make sure all the oil left in the pump was out and nothing was left pumping out before I went to the track.
