I i have an MC28 that im nearly finished building.
I would really appreciate your input as to how you think my bike will run.
I bought it as a track bike that was apparently dyno'd at a known dyno around here @ 72hp who knows. it was running a PGM 3, race loom, HRC derestrictor box, ported, JHA pipes, HRC jet kit, airbox and dual core radiator. i couldnt ride it when i got it though because i had a broken wrist from crashing my 600 race bike..
I started tearing it down with one arm ha ha.
now,I am almost done building it into a road bike. BUT, i bought a complete stock loom. standard PGM4 with standard card, which i just fitted on the bike.
Its got a full tyga GP-250 bodykit aswell. TYGA, you guys rock!
With the porting, the JHA pipes, HRC jet kit, airbox and big radiator. the question is: how will it run with the PGM4?? I understand i dont have the HRC cards for the PGM4 but will it still run nicely with the standard PGM and the mods?
It is a road bike now so im not looking to squeeze every last hp from it as it needs to get me around abit this summer coming inbetween the weekend riding so it must run properly.
Would i need to build lights into my race loom with PGM3 and HRC box and forget the PGM4 until i have it mated to an HRC card?? An even with an HRC card in the PGM4 would it perform like with the race loom?
will try to get in before everyone wades in with advice on not buying a 28
HRC card is ideal but another option is the std pgm 1v card with a mc21flywheel which gives 1.5 degrees more advanve or get a 2degree offset key from tyga (they are super cheap)
I have a hrc card for mine but am trialing the offset key and reckon its more than close enough in performance for the road to make losing the speedo not worth the hassle
Thanks for the info! ill definately look into that from Tyga as I need to get new end cans from them anyway. Another question I have: my JHA chambers, they weren't in great condition and had some dark coating on aswell so I sanded them down(bleeding hands haha) to their original raw state and they look AWESOME! The only problem is they need a clear coating of some sort to keep them from rusting. What high heat clear do you use?? Something that won't burn off at the headers.
i may be wrong but the pgm 4 is heavily restricted thats why a pgm 3 was used. i dont think you will have any where near **** 72 bhp more like 40 bhp, mc 28s are known to be heavily restricted and hard/ expenive to de-restrict.
im not a expert on mc 28 de-restricting but i think you will be dissapionted the mc 21 flywheel is a great idea but i think the pgm 4 restricts powervavle opening and retards the ignition in 4th,5th and 6th

You were right that you may be wrong!
An mc21 flywheel will make a noticeable improvement but a hrc card is the way to go.
I for one would love to see dyno print outs on the same dyno with the pgm3, and the pgm4 with the offset key or 21 flywheel and then the hrc card. Yes the pgm4 with flywheel will be the lowest, no where near 40bhp though, I think hrc card will be the best.
Howzit Tim , I have had some good waves in Kalk bay and St James reef ! It would be good to check some dyno charts comparing the different ignitions . Try VHT spray paint , the make a clear exhaust paint and you put a few coats on between some heat cycles to cure the paint .

The '28 has no GPS thus has no idea what gear it's in. It runs the same RC valve opening and ignition map in every gear.
It'll be no match for a PGM-III machine (with or without a '21 flywheel) but with some race pipes a '28 is a decent roadbike. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread

Are you sure about that? The manual points out a GPS on the MC28, and I recall there being one on my MC28.
Now as for the ignition timing map for each gear? You could be right there, but the PGMIV does get input from the GPS and uses that input to tell you your in neutral. _________________ Charles Gallant
It's only a neutral switch on the MC28, Charles. If you look on the wiring diagram, you will see there is only one wire leading from it. _________________ Andy.

Thanks very much guys! I'm going to run the PGM4 as it is for now and soon i want to put lights and indicators on the race loom with the HRC box and run a motec dash that willl be ultimate i think! busy doing the last of the prep of the new Tyga bodykit before the sprayjob.
How do i tel the difference between the MC21 flywheel and the MC28 one? Going by what you guys have said, im sure my bike has the standard flywheel in at the moment as the PGM3 was being used?

Thanks! Yeah Kalk Bay is an awesome place with an atmosphere second to none!
I found out today that the VHT sprays are available at Midas so ill get some on Moday.
