My setup is 87 mc16 bottom end, 88 mc18r2j carbs mc18 barrels and pgm 3 except the flywheel and magneto which is 89 mc18r5k. Andy said in a topic that i must use the 3rd gear map in all gears, to do this i must cut the green\green wire from the gps and put it in the ground in the subframe.. or is this wrong? can you guys tell me how to do it? thanks.
....sorry about my english ...
thank you andy! i just tried it and it runs much better but i still have a problem...after 7.000 its power stops and it will rev hardly up to 10.000...
is it because of the mc18 carbs? or the mc18 flywheel?
More likely the MC16 bottom-end, I'm afriad. It's never going to make much over 50hp without getting the grinder out on the insides of the cases. Maybe 55hp tops.
You could also find that air correction is suffering, depending on how the caburettor plumbing is hooked up. Time to get it to a dyno really, and play with settings.
No reason a 16 bottom with 18 barrels, 18/21 carbs, and a PGM-III shouldn't go well, but it will take some setting up. Bear in mind that an MC16 F-III is rated at 68hp, even with 28mm carbs, so there's plenty of potential even with that bottom-end. _________________ Andy.

Andy, isn't 2Smoke's bike an mc16 bottom end? That goes well enough....... _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
not believed to be problem the mc16 cases...they had undergone preparation before entering the crankshaft upward ... the air correction plumbing is like a stock mc21 and i use mc21 factory settings in the mc18 carbs except the mc18 Emulsion tubes and main jets...
all i want is the power of a completely stock mc21(45hp) i beleve that i can achieve it with my stuff.
thank you again!
Paul's MC16 is pretty much MC18/21 spec downstairs.
If the bottom has been flowed to later spec, then once set up and with the wire splice I don't see any reason why it won't make 60hp. Paul's makes more than that for sure... I'd put 50p on it! _________________ Andy.

Fit 21 emulsion tubes or solder up two of the 4 rows of holes.
MC18 carbs are different to 21 carbs internally. They have an additional air orifice which may be your problem, and that may need to be blocked up when used with the 21 emulsion tubes.
That's as close to jetting info as this thread will get. Please take the bike to a dyno or take the thread to the Members (setup) area if you want to get into specifics! Any mention of jet numbers will see this thread locked. _________________ Andy.

My reasoning was that we had a bike built by a Thai dude many moons ago and by mistake he fitted the 18 nozzle to the 21 carbs and it suffered exactly the same symptoms. However, as Andy says, maybe the specifics should be covered in the correct area of the forum.
