Hey everyone. this is my first time on the site. i have just bought my first 1991 NSR250 off a friend for $500 AUD as he could not get it working. after tinkering for a few days i have managed to get it starting and running but will not idle at all. i was wondering if the is and idle adjust screw or some other things i should be looking at to solve this problem. and help would be greatly appreciated and i apologize if this is a dumb question
Hi Sruss! Good to see another Aussie join the ranks. Where in Aus are you based?
I would start with getting the carbs out and giving them a good clean, making sure that all jets are free of debris. If no luck there, might be worth looking at the crank seals. _________________ Cheers,

Hey Dave thanks for the advice I'll give it a try. This is my first bike that I have eve done work on so everything I do is a learning experience for me at the moment. Just relying on this site heavily and loving the experience of doing it
Eastern side of town out near ringwood. if you know where that is
Best thing you can do is read the info in the main site about servicing and tuning, then five everything a good going over - clean the carbs and tank (take a note of the jet sizes), check the air filter, have a good look at all the rubber bits for splits, check connectors on ignition coils, replace any in-line fuel filters, fit new plugs and pour in some fresh fuel. Replace the gearbox oil and especially the two stroke oil with something you know is good.
Wouldn't hurt to drop the exhaust pipes off and have a good look into the barrels, checking for scrape marks or anything which doesn't look good.
Also make sure the power valves are free to rotate - any build up of carbon can jam them which leads to the servo drawing too much current and eventual burn out of the PGM ignition unit.
Welcome to the site. You could do a lot worse than buy a workshop manual, available in the Marketplace section.Saves a lot of searching/asking!In the meantime, follow Dave's tips, good luck.

If you look under the seat, there should be a sticker on the frame rail saying something like "R8N". _________________ MC21SP Plaything

A 9L should be a 1991 "SE" model, that comes with dry clutch and adjustable suspension, if its still wearing its original bodywork it should be white with red stripes, red wheels and green number boards on the seat unit. Of course it could have had a different subframe fitted and could be a completely different model.
I would say you have got a good deal for $650 Aussie dollars, thats about £420 (would have been about £1.70 before the financial crisis ) If it is SE with the dry clutch and adjustable suspension still intact it was an absolute steal even as a non runner!
Hey guys thanks for all the info much appreciated
It does have the adjustable forks and dry clutch but is yellow and black. And is now running a dream thanks too a few friends
