Is the gearbox oil level supposed to be up to the nib on the cap when the bike is on the stand or when upright?

My bellypan is full of gunk/oil. Is this a leak or general two stroke gunge? I'm worried I've got a leak somewhere from the gearbox. I don't think into the crankcase as it's leaking outside rather than burning it? It might not be. This is my second bike and my first stroker so I'm a bit lost right now.

Would that drip onto the ground under the bike?

That "oil" on the expansion chamber is most likely from the front sprocket/chain, if you ask me.

When checking the oil level, have the bike upright, not on the side stand.
The oil should come up to the top of the cross hatch pattern on the (very short) dip stick.
But I have to admit, I do not know if you are supposed to screw the filler cap into the case when checking the gearbox oil level, or just sit it on the top of the threads.

Hmmm. New problem. It stopped running on the lower cylinder after I accidentally left the fuel petcock on overnight. Plug was black and rather covered in fuel. Plug now doesn't spark even against the head but was running on lower cylinder before. Fingers crossed it'll go properly in the morning with a new plug and without the lower cylinder being full of fuel!

I think I might have fouled the plug in the first place by riding like a nancy. I tend to tick along at 5k but by the sounds of it it'll run better if I drop down a gear and fang it?

Sounds like your right hand carb needle valve hasn't seated properly, flooding the cylinder...

I took the thing apart. That extra oil on the left hand expansion chamber turned out to the oil from the injector pump that should have been going to one of the cylinders. Hence smoke from the right and not from the left. Got smoke from both now Good job I did decide to investigate the oil!
