Hi, my MC28 has a new battery (old one died of old age) and when I rode it on the track, I got one session in okay, second session it started but no headlight, then died.

So, in testing the charging system, I started with the stator. The battery is not getting a charge. Resistance across the windings is 0.6 ohm and open to earth - so all good so far. Starting the bike and at 5,000 rpm, one coil is outputting 50v AC and the other two are 36V AC - as a result I suspect the stator. Has anyone else come across this and managed a fix as opposed to a rewind of the stator or replacement with another one?

what's the output of the reg/rec? It won't like that imbalance but it should also be able to charge the battery if your getting those voltages.

The voltage across the battery when the bike is running is only 12.5V - not enough

So, now I am confused. The rewinder has checked the stator and he cannot see anything wrong with it at all and has sent it back.

Is there nay chance that the flywheel could be faulty? It looks ok and if it was somehow faulty (eg: missing a magnet), I cannot see how it would affect only two coils.

All 3 coils should be about 50V AC or more, not sure about NSR spec, but most bikes will produce about 55V @ 4000 rpm which gives it healthy 14V DC

Rotor can not cause this problem, it has to be the stator, might looking for bad connection somewhere on the stator.

before you remount it, wriggle the wires around and see if you get a varying resistance, if so then you know you have a bad connection.

I have a loose spare one that i can measure the resistance if you need me to . What is going into the regulator ? You say 12.5 is coming out ?
