Is there any FAQs or anything where I can learn some more about the bikes? I was looking at a NS250R and a 1987 NSR250R this weekend and they seem to be exactly the type of bike I am looking for... Very light, while still retaining some sporty power and handling characteristics.
I have gone over the model histories and specifications and have think the MC 16 like the 1987 I looked at would be a good choice.
What should I look for when purchasing these bikes, what is the parts availability and what bikes two strokes and four strokes are in the same range for power and weight?
How much should I expect to pay Canadian and is there much of an aftermarket parts industry?
After further review I now believe the bike is the 1987 NSR250 in Fighting Red
If you've read all of this site, you'll be pretty clued up!
The MC16 is now very old, and parts are harder to find for it, especially bodywork.
The MC18 is a little younger, and quite well supported.
The MC21 is younger still, but at least 12 years old now, and is well supported.
The MC28 is the latest, but again, at least 10 years old now. It has the most complicated ignition system of the lot, and is very heavily restricted. Both can be overcome, but it can be hard and expensive.
Personally I'd go for a 21, as I think they look the best without the complications of the 28, though an 18 is as good for parts and support.
None of the bikes were ever exported outside Japan, so any support you want will only be found through sites like this one.
No manuals were ever produced in English, though much of the important stuff has been translated.
Most parts can be ordered through your local dealer, if you go to the parts section on here and take the number in to them.
There is still quite a big after market scene in Japan, and the specialists at TYGA do an awfull lot of gear for them.

Yeah I have some 2 stroke experience I race a 2005 Yamaha YZ 125 and do all of the work myself so I shouldnt have any problems working on most of the bike.
