My MC21 is running on one cylinder (top). I have been troubleshooting electrical because the bottom is not getting spark.
Andy recommended cleaning and checking the pickup coils. I'm glad that he did because they were diiiirty. I also noticed some scorching on the connector coming from the coils (pictured).
Is there a way to test the coils to see if they are working properly? If I test ohms, what numbers should I get?
Also, I noticed while trying to start the bike or while running on one cylinder, the RIGHT side (clutch lever side) of the PGM was getting hot. I wonder if that indicates a PGM fault...
When did you last service your power valve? If it isn't free to rotate, the motor draws too much current and can melt the PGM. Might be worth checking the valves are both free to rotate befor eyou do too much more testing...
Do you have access to an oscilloscope? I bought one for tracking down an ABS problem, and the hand portable LCD ones are pretty cheap. Best way of checking things like pulse coil output...
Set your multimeter into the beeper mode and connect the probes to the rh cylinder pickup coil (White/Blue & Blue wires I think).
While tuning the flywheel and the two lobes pass near the pickup coil you should hear a sound.
This will verify that signal passes to the PGM unit and pickup coil is fine.
Also check the RH ignition coil and especially it's corresponding wiring loom fitments, spark plug & cap. _________________ 2t-racelab.com
