Mc28 carb cleaning

Fri Nov 02, 2012 5:44 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Evening all.

I need to clean my carbs .I notice the throttle position sensor is fixed with a security screw; does this mean that removal is not recomended ? Will carb cleaning sprays or ultrasonic cleaning damage the sensor if i do not remove it ?

Thanks

You would be advised not to dunk it in an ultrasonic cleaner, or even get it wet. They are splash resistant, but that's about it.

If you are to remove it, you should at the very least take a reading from it at full throttle first, as it's crucial it's set correctly, hence the anti-tamper screw. Setting of the T.P.S. is covered in the NSR-WORLD English Service Manual.

Be careful when removing it, as there's a small plastic spacer between shaft and the sensor that is easily lost.

You shouldn't have any problems using carb cleaner with the T.P.S. still fitted. There's no reason to spray the cleaner directly at the sensor anyway!

Andy.

Thanks for the reply to above question , this could have saved me lots of agro .

I have a copy of the workshop manual but it makes no mention of removal of T.P.S.or small plastic thingy .

No, only setting of it is covered in the manual.
