So I just bought a 1996 MC28 SE about 2 months ago in Repsol livery. It's my first two-stroke street bike and was just a blast to ride but was down on power. When I got it, I had it dyno'd and it made 36whp. I installed 2 degree woodruff keys, Tyga airbox, Tyga Hi-flow Reeds, completely cleaned the cards and ran #155 jets. The bike ended up putting down 54whp after all this. I was hooked!! While looking for another NSR for a buddy of mine, I ended up sourcing a CA registered 1990 Cabin Racing MC21SP which I ended up buying for myself. The previous owner completely restored the bike and it has a brand new bottom and top end. He provided me with a brand new complete set of OEM Cabin Racing bodywork including a tank that has never had fuel in it. Though the price of the bike was quite a bit more than I paid for my MC28, I knew my MC28 was going to need at least a top end soon as it had about 22k miles on it, brake pads, clutch, etc...and I knew these were going cost me some good money to get it all done not to mention all the additional items that I wanted to purchase for it which the MC21 already had. Anyhow, the upgrades included with the new bike include the following:
RVF400 Front end
Tyga Rear Sets
WP Steering Damper
M-Max de-restrict box
Jha Pipes
HRC rear brake reservoir
Braided brake lines front and rear
Brand new bottom and top end. Kevin Murracy MCE racing did all the bottom end work and the previous owner did the top end. It only has two heat cycles on it.
The following stuff is what is new and zero miles:
Crank bearings, all seals, gaskets, clutch steels and fibers.
New pistons, rings, bearings, reeds all gaskets etc etc.
Carbs haven just been gone through and cleaned.
New oem throttle cables
oem clutch cable
new Daytona brake pads on front, EBC on rear.
Chain and Sprockets (maybe 100 miles)
Coils, plug wires and spark plugs
New hand grips
Tyga Carbon Silencers (for either set of pipes)
All fluids, brakes, trans, injector pump
All bearings and seals pulled cleaned and lubed with redline synthetic grease.
Every nut and bolt and little odd and end was cleaned, de-greased, ultrasonically cleaned or painted etc. All the hardware was cleaned up on a wheel or painted or replaced.
Small plastic parts were cleaned, rubber re-juvenator was used on small rubber bits that needed it etc etc.
So basically the bike is near 100% new, the engine is zero miles fresh, front forks just freshened up with new Motul fluid and seals. I just ordered a new Ohlins rear shock for it .
The bodywork is all new, still in OEM packaging. The guy bought what he thinks is probably the last set out of the UK about 7 years ago complete with tank...extremely rare.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to start it yet as it still needs a radiator which he will bring to me next week and help me with getting her fired up.
The bike also came with the following spare parts:
extra good PGM3
Two complete top ends
Lots of clutch bits, coils, plug wires, plugs
base gaskets, head gaskets lots of new little odds and ends still in oem packaging
Stock pipes and passenger pegs, extra bits and pieces.
I also purchased a ton of parts for the bike already which are:
Tyga RSW street front and side fairings
MC28 welded rear seat cowling
MC28 tank (thanks Leigh!)
Misc carbon pieces
New black and red extendable levers
New Pirelli Supercorsa's in 110/70 and 150/60
Tyga airbox and new main jets in various sizes for when I dyno tune her.
I have a spare rear head and just purchased some new shorty plugs and caps to run when I do the HRC head conversion.
I really like the Cabin Racing theme, and plan on painting the new RSW bodywork and MC28 tank to match. I also ordered up a track set of original look plastics but had them ad some racing decals below the Honda decal on the fairings. I just don't want to use the stock fairings and tank and plan on keeping them stored.
Needless to say, I'm very exited and can't wait to get her up and running as I have a track day event on January 12th.
Happy Holidays everybody!! I know mine will be
Here are a couple pictures of the bike and the OEM fairings as well as a little mock up I did with the MC28 welded rear seat cowling and MC28 tank (thanks Leigh!). The MC28 rear seat cowling does not really fit right, the rear HRC brake reservoir seems to be in the way of where a custom mounting bracket needs to go. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE PUT AN MC28 REAR SEAT COWLING ON AN MC21, CAN YOU HELP WITH WHAT I NEED TO DO TO GET IT TO FIT RIGHT??
Here is my old MC28 that I ended up selling 45 minutes before purchasing the MC21.
Brand new cabin fairings and tank. That is not something you see every day. _________________ [color=#808080][size=9]Yes,.. I too know how to waste Time and Money,...
Hello.
Great write up...........Love it.
Can you tell me how the previous owner got hold of the brand new Cabin scheme fairing and tank (Are they genuine Honda ?)
Cheers.
Probably the Cabin kit from Lorraine Pinner, who bought it new years and years ago in the UK, and was keeping it for her MC21 one day. That goes back maybe 8~10 years now. It was easy, although not cheap, to buy full body kits from Honda back then. _________________ Andy.

I see that tucked away on the RHS on one photo is a nice little RS125............I`ve always liked them but never had a ride on one..........Are they good fun, surprising a little ?...........Please tell, cheers, Paul.
To get 28 stuff to look nice on the 21 you need to run the 28 tank, tail and seat. The subframes are interchangeable. Congratulations, I would have tried to keep both as they look great.

Nearly got me excited for a minute, i thought you were talking about a proper RS125, ie, Honda RS125 gp, was about to write shed loads of what they are like to ride, but sadly no comparison between them. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto

If you like late braking, they really teach you how to brake and hold your nerve. On the road they are great for practising race starts at the lights and not getting into too much trouble. I haven't tried a gp bike which is supposed to be even more exciting.

You could so easily be talking about an RS125 NF4... we were doing that years ago outside Mark Brown's shop in Orlando, only it would have got us into a lot of trouble if caught... so we just retired to the pub opposite instead, but that's a whole 'nother story!!!! _________________ Andy.

Brand new oem bodywork, thats lovely! I would make sure you have clearance between the r/h exhaust and fairing though, aftermarket exhausts tend to touch and melt the r/h lower fairing. Not what you want with that shiny new bodywork.

Lorraine bought it while on a trip to Japan. Then had it all shipped back to the UK. She sold up all her NSR stuff didn't she to go car racing. Renault Clios and Mazda RX7s I seem to remember.

Thanks, but I'm not going to end up using this bodywork. I bought the Tyga RSW front and side fairings that I plan on custom painting in Cabin Racing Scheme. I also bought another set of aftermarket MC21 fairings that I had painted in Cabin Racing Scheme with some racing decals on them (pics attached) that I plan on using for track days and maybe run it on the street when I plan on changing it up.

Yes they are genuine Honda. It's probably what Andy and racer38 said. I'm pretty sure the guy I bought the bike from knows guys on this forum, so this is probably how he got it.

I do have and am going to run the MC28 tank, that is what is mocked up in the photos. I"m contemplating on buying the Tyga GP rear seat cowling instead of doing the MC28 seat cowling, i just can't decide .

Those bikes are actually a buddy of mines. That bike is a 2009 Aprilia RS125 that was CA plated. I only rode it once very briefly. It felt really good, but I never really got a chance to push on it. I think it makes something like 33hp, and felt pretty good up high, but it had absolutely NOTHING down low. It's probably pretty fun as a track toy, but not too fun to ride on the streets.
The guy I bought the bike from dropped off my radiator this morning, and while I was away in Las Vegas, my neighbor gave me a little Christmas present and installed it for me . I plan on getting her fired up by tomorrow . I also got some pictures sent to me of what my new custom set of MC21 Cabin Racing bodywork looks like, i'm pretty happy on how they came out.
wow where did you get those after market fairings the paint job on them looks amazing im still trying to find a set for mine if you could let me know where you got them id really appreciate it =D
