Exhaust project

Mon Apr 29, 2013 2:27 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

As some of you know I own a carbon fibre company, as a project and technical demonstrator we are thinking of producing a full carbon ceramic exhaust system. We are starting with a two stroke system as the design is slightly easier, we have sourced and tested a resin system that is good for 1800 degrees C sot that's pretty much covered.
We are using my Jolly Motos as a template but what I can't find is the internal structure of the expansion chambers. I don't want cut open my jolly motos so need to know whether there is any internal baffles or structures internally so we can replicate them exactly.
Has anyone either got pictures or diagram of,the internal or just the info that there is nothing inside?

I don't think there's anything inside an after market expansion. OEM ones are double skin, which is why they are heavier

I googled this, but you'll need a lot of technical input http://www.mh-aerotools.de/airfoils/javapipe_en.htm

Things to bear in mind are RC Valves vary the ports and it depends on where you want the power & where you plan to ride. You could end up with great track pipes that are no fun on the road

Thanks for the link and info. I intended to use the jolly Motos design as these seem to be a good pipe to start with

Not sure of the practical applications but should be cool as fook. We are using it as a technical piece looking into using carbon and ceramics in high temperature applications.

Have you got a projected weight?

Perhaps you should be looking into Solid Oxide Fuel Cells - they operate at temps upwards of 800C, and are in need of a breakthough for heat cycles, since the ceramic coatings can only cope with a few hundred at best.
