Air Jet Removal...cleaning???

Mon May 13, 2013 11:57 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I have decided to do a 'complete strip down and rebuild of one set of carburettors (22b).
I have removed all jets and cleaned thoroughly, blown through with air line etc. I have removed slides, needles etc etc even the choke sliders.

One anomaly that I have found is that I can 'blow through' air on one Air Jet but not the other. I can create a suction on my tongue with one air jet but not the other.....sits back and waits for laughter to die down!!!
How can these Air jets be removed?

Thanks in advance
Mike

Perhaps I am missing something here?

To my mind there are 3 jets in the carby:
1) The Main Jet
2) The Slow jet (or idle jet)
3) The Power jet (sometimes referred to as the air correction jet?)

I suppose the X and Y joints in the air correction circuit could also be considered a type of jet?

Are you able to say which one you are talking about?
Perhaps a photo?

Have a read through this page on NSR-World

No it's the 'Air Jet' as referred to on the site (somewhere!!!). It's the large brass tube below the main jet/emulsion tube when looking at the carb from the bottom. It does not have a slot in the end for removal with a screwdriver. It's size number (on mine anyway) is *55.

I have managed to carefully clean it out by using a carb jet cleaning tool set. It now allows me to suck air through it, similar to the other carb. I then used brake cleaner spray to try to clean away any debris.
This would have been a more confidence inspiring move with this Air Jet removed.

Oh, right.
As pictured in this thread
I can't say that I've ever given it much thought.
You have just given me something to think about.
Sorry I can't be of any help.

Yes that's the kiddie (s) Smile

The 'only' way that I considered was a good test was to put the end in mouth and blow/suck. On one carb it was fine but the other was completely blocked. After I carefully used the 'carb wires' and blew brake cleaner then air through it it appeared to be similar to the other air jet. It certainly would have been better (in my opinon) to have remeoved it though!
Thanks for your consideration though Tuckerbag (what is your name), it's very much appreciated.

I have now completely stripped both carbs and cleaned all jets, checked, as much as I can, all airways, lightly oil the choke pistons, clean the needle slides and lubricate with ptfe based oil, checked and adjusted both float levels (13mm) and carefully rebuilt the carbs using all Standard jet sizes. This is on Noodles original carbs which had very poor starting and only running on one cylinder for several moments.
I intend to start at 'base' again with all standard settings and go from there. After all, I still have to run it in but I will get pulled up eventually by the police for laying 'smoke-screens' with the current carbs.

I'll let you know how it all goes.

Mike
